I just bought a new ASUS SATA Motherboard and a new AMD Athlon x2 Dual core processor.
I put it all in, Go into Bios, Boot to Master (HDD), and when it boots, all i see is a Black screen with a blinking dash in the left top hand corner.
The HDD has Windows XP and all of my school stuff on it.
How would i get my HDD to work with my new Motherboard?

Do a reinstall of WinXP over the top. Should fix it fine.. - make sure you dont reformat it or anything crazy!!

Installing a new mobo and uising an existing XP install it something that will either work or fail miserably. You can try a reinstall as suggested above but the best option is to back up important data and then to a fresh install.

A repair install will fix up windows while leaving your stuff in place.

Make sure in the BIOS SATA is set to IDE Mode and not AHCI as this would require a SATA driver to get XP running.

I have found in the past this seems to work right up to the stage when windows boots for the first time after the install.. then you are back to a OS that will not boot.

However running the install over the top of the existing one will get the OS working and you will not loose your data however you will need to reinstall all your applications.

Although as stated DO NOT FORMAT YOUR DRIVE!

Before you start doing repair installs make sure you have your license keys documented if you dont have it remove the HDD, plug into another working pc, download magic jelly keyfinder and load the offline registry hive from the windows directory of your hdd.

If your using an OEM license just remember a change of motherboard is considered a new system so you need to purchase a new license.
