I was working on my desktop via RDP, when I noticed a NVIDIA driver update available. I hit the button to install it.

After installation, the RDP window looks like this - local session on the desktop is just fine:

I have restarted the box and have manually installed the NVIDIA driver again.

I am not having much luck finding something like this when searching for a solution.

Any ideas?

Have you tried uninstalling the update, or try different resolution or colour depth?

I haven't uninstalled the driver but did try different resolutions and colour depth for RDP.

To be honest, we have done a lot of RDP and I can't recall ever seeing exactly what you have shown, I think I'd roll back the updates.

Yeah I'd roll it back.

Asked my sister who just updated her nvidia drivers on her machine and asked her to log in for her work rdp and is not seeing what you're seeing freitasm. I won't be installing the latest nvidia drivers either as I don't fancy carrying a monitor, keyboard and mouse just to do something briefly on my home server.

Thanks for heads up.

Ok, I will rollback drivers - a pain as I have a couple of conference calls this afternoon so not much time.

Reinstalling the previous driver now.

Interesting I remote to the desktop using Chrome Remote and no problems. Used Pulseway Remote Desktop and no problem.

Well, to be fair, RDP is a pretty stable technology, it's more likely an issue with the Driver.

Right... So, why am I using RDP if I already have Chrome Remote Desktop and Pulseway on that box?

With the new puppy, I am kind of located in the dining table now, instead of the home office, so that I can keep an eye on the doggy running around the lounge area. I have been using a laptop until now and that's cool. But this week I received a 27" M5 Smart Monitor With Mobile Connectivity LS27AM500NEXXY | Samsung NZ for review. The thing that interested most is that it is a smart monitor with built-in RDP/VNC client, as well as browser-based Office 365 client.

So I thought of trying to work without the laptop, on a much bigger screen but still with access to everything - so RDP to my desktop in the home office. It works like a charm - except when the video driver update on the desktop created that mess on the topic. Fixed now, with a rollback to the previous driver.

I have to say, this monitor is pretty cool.

Well, logged directly into the desktop yesterday and decided to apply the NVIDIA driver update from a local session. Rebooted after the update and initiated a RDP session - and everything working fine.

Perhaps the lesson is "never update video drivers while logged in via RDP."
