Hi there,
I don't know if this is right place to be asking this question as I have noticed that all the other topics are nothing to do with windows/explorer/outlook etc but......
I am having trouble reading email from my Outlook Express Version 6.0. The emails arrive in the inbox fine but when you click on it once the header appears in the preview window below the inbox but no email shows. When you double click the email opens in a new window but the email content is still not there. The content of the email is included in the attachments section of the message which you can then open from there (usually saved as a text file) but this seems like a long un-necessary way of reading something so simple!
I'm thinking surely there is some obscure option which needs ticked or unticked or perhaps there is an important file from Outlook Express missing. Am currently running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2.
If anyone has any ideas.... please help me!!

I dont know the answer for you problem, but:
If you are using Win XP Pro then why dont you use Microsoft Outlook 2003 instead of Outlook Express?

At first glance Mahuhu's reply didn't seem very helpful at all, but when I found Microsoft Outlook and opened it all the emails are there and can be opened and viewed and replied to fine! So I guess we'll make this the default mail server! I was actually asking for a friend of mine who has very little to do with computers, and even I had no idea about Microsoft Outlook!

outlook typically looks way too much for the casual user

If you are using Win XP the why dont you use Microsoft Outlook 2003 instead of Outlook Express?

Microsoft Outlook Express is provided free, but "Microsoft Outlook" is not...

Sorry, probably I am an old mailing geek, so for me it's natural if you have Win XP Pro then you use MS Outlook. :-)

Outlook Express is a piece of [removed] (sorry for my French and sorry Bill G.) and MS Outlook has lot more features what I need in my work.

Therefore I tried to suggest with my question to use the better mailing program.. :-)

I thought MS Outlook comes together with Win XP Pro....

Ok I'm getting very confused!
It seems my friend had been using Microsoft Outlook for some time a few months ago as there were emails that had been opened from April on there.
Also what do you mean Microsoft Outlook is not provided free???

Microsoft Outlook (eith the 98, 2000, XP or 2003 version) is a full featured email/calendar/ time management client. It costs minimum $200 as part of MS Office Student and Teacher edition (or $400 on its own).

Microsoft Outlook Express is a free email client from Microsoft.

My advice is as follows -

Use Outlook if the extra features are warranted.
OR
Use something like Mozilla Thunderbird

No, just use it.
Dis ment that it's not coming for free -> you have to buy it.

But if you have already, just use it.
