I liked the old windows movie maker in vista even though it used to piss me off every time it crashed
and the problem with any new windows movie maker they made, you couldn't open your old projects, I got so tired of vista playing up, i backed all my wmm files and media, up into an external and installed windows 7, only to find no windows movie maker, i download windows movie maker2.6, but it wouldn’t load my projects, so i downloaded windows movie maker live, found that to be making any good editing tools, it’s a no frills model,
but install it as you will need it later on for making the movie.
so here is  the work around for it, i have only tried this on 64bit

copy the windows movie maker folder from  vista 64bit
paste it to windows 7 64bit programefiles
create a shortcut off the MOVIEMK file to desktop

and your away laughing, but when you go to load your media a small x will come up on your photo's/video's
just click on the x you will be asked to locate your media, if you havnt moved them around to much and put them back in similar place where u created the project e.g...like desktop/family PICS then it should be easy.

i edited all night long and it went fine no problems at all,
untill i went to publish it, it woldnt work,

this is how i worked around that

when your happy with your project, save it
close MOVIEMK (windows movie maker)
and start up windows movie maker live
open your project through there and publish to DVD,
one of the first things it will do is make a copy to your videos folder

please excuse my spelling, its been a sleepless few days

Kind Regards,
Weetbix

run a vista 64bit inside your win7 to pull out the windows movie maker folder
i think you can only do this if your cpu supports Virtualization Technology,
because i tried it on a different pc and i got as far as trying to load vista 64bit and it told me i couldn't.

=\ I don't think you people understand why it does not come with Windows anymore.

... Remember net meeting in Windows 98? Windows Messenger in XP? Nobody used, they were old software once released and just added bulk rubbish unnecessary content in the operating system. Windows live essentials is how you get it now, it's like this so people can download the latest version optionally.

i don't think you unserstand, why some of us out there are so disappointed,

1. we have unfinished work to do on wmm, but after doing all updates on vista, wmm just crashes all the time.

2 windows live at the moment sux, with limites editing tools, but until the new updates come out we are quite happy with this fix. and wmm live is still working fine along side the vista wmm on win7

3. your comment (added bulk rubbish unnecessary content in the operating system)
i said nothing about loading anything into operating system, its simply copy n paste
u could even paste it to an external and run it from there if your worried about clogging up your os. nothing gets loaded into the system.

4. thanks for your comment
