Can someone help me here?
About a week ago, I purchased a Wireless Router from Belkin for the obvious reasons (2 computers one modem) and everything worked fine, no problems with IP or anything.
A couple days ago I took the router back because there was really no need for it, (one computer has wireless mine doesn't) and unplugged everything properly and plugged the cable from the modem back into my computer. It started up and everything looked fine until I clicked on Firefox.
I went and clicked on status on my ethernet connection and it gave me a 169 IP address which apparently is not good.
I talked to Belkin and Comcast (ISP), Belkin told me to contact Comcast, Comcast told me to contact my computer company because I have a Winsock program.
My computer is a Compaq Presario 700, it has Windows XP probably 2002-2003 edition. (Yes I know)
I called Compaq and got ABSOLUTLEY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, and no answers seeing that even though I purchased a plan and paid top money for the device I would have to pay for a tech.
I've looked up several online topics about how to fix the winsock program, Delete the registry keys, reinstall TCP/IP and the likes. I've reinstalled Windows and System Restored all with no outcome.
Could somebody help before I throw my computer into a wall?
