Hi
I am thinking about upgrading my computer to make it faster and more efficent. I want to spend a few hundred from my work bonus.

The following specs are what I have now:
MS Windows XP Professional SP3
AMD Athlon 7750 Dual Core processor, 2.0GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT

Looking at a triple core processor and a general tune up.
Can anyone recommend what they would do and where to get it done, I am in Chch. Thanks

Just an update i was quoted $235 for a quad core and tune up does that sound about right?

Whoa will not be going through the guy who built my computer, he was rude, arrogant and nasty. He called everyone who informed me that NOD32 was good a F..kn.morons. He also told me I know nothing and can do nothing. I am not impressed and would love a recommendation of where I can go to get this upgrade at a fair price without the abuse.

FWIW, NOD32 is being raged at alot lately.

A recent update very badly broke the product and left alot of techie rage.

What make and model is the motherboard?

You current motherboard will determines what cpu, ram and video card you can put it. If it's fairly old you'll probably want to upgrade the motherboard, cpu, ram and video.

but it depends what your motherboard can handle

I agree with bountypure increasing ram can do wonders, its sometimes not worth updating the cpu unless you are doing something with 3d/Image editing or encoding/decoding video. But bear in mind that Windows 32bit only see upto 3GB of ram. :) I also would recommend upgrading windows 7 i found this made my system feel nice and new specially if you coming from win xp, though on the other hand win 7 is a little more heavy on resources than win XP

Hey guys thanks for your help i ended up buying a brand new PC that does everything great gave the old one to my girl friend got a really good deal on a windows 7 machine from Harvey Norman really enjoying windows 7
