hi all
I have recently bought a laptop running windows xp home edition
I am having trouble signing in to hotmail and also MSN Messenger
each time it refers to my firewall settings even tho my windows firewall ISNT on!
I thought it might have been nortons, although MSN Messenger is on the exceptions list
and even when i disable it for 15 mins it still doesnt work
Windows messenger works fine, although strangely
it signs me out when the screen saver comes on
when im online it often tells people i am offline even when I am still talking to them
on other occasions it says I am offline and they cant send me a msg, even tho I am still online!
then as soon as I send them a msg it says I'm online again!
its all very strange!
ANY help would be MUCH appreciated as I am in the UK trying to keep in contact with friends/family in NZ!
Thanks so much!
Sel

Not sure on the MSN Messenger problems, these could be some temporary glitches. For a while here in New Zealand we couldn't log into MSN Messenger from Pocket PCs, and all of a sudden all was fixed.

As for Hotmail, since you are using Norton, make sure it's not blocking any cookies for this site - either Norton or your Browser may be configured to block those all so very important and sometimes misunderstood little text files.

OK, where do I find the cookie settings for my browser?
I looked in the internet options tab but couldnt find anything there
also I forgot to mention I am running on a wireless broadband connection
unsure if this would make any difference or not tho anyway

If you take an advice:
uninstall Norton and install free virusbuster as Avast or AVG. Rumours were spreading that Norton is using a lot of resources and could block programs from normal use.
Myself (and I know freitasm too) using Avast, I am totally satisfied, one of the best FREE virusbuster on the market.

Also check out Live Messenger in beta version. It can be downloaded from MS. It's much better then the normal one, I am testing it since came out for beta testing.

At least give it a try for couple of days and see if anything changes. I think it will.

Just this past saturday I was preparing to reinstall my computer for the sake of system speed.
Instead I decided to uninstall Norton antivirus just to see what would happen...
IT WORKS! my much loved computer is back to the way it was before.
I know also use Avast great piece of software, the spoken alert after updating virus libraries is awesome too :D

although I dont think it is as a UK website I was surfing told me to click in view, privacy report and to right click on an option to accept all cookies from this site, as the page hadnt loaded... which it then did load after I did that
I  have also uninstalled nortons and installed trusty old AVG which I used on my desktop back home in NZ
