Hi there,

Has anyone had experience port-forwarding a D-Link 302g (yes, those horrible things xtra hands out when you get broadband) under ubuntu?

Upgraded to Hardy recently and my torrents are now crawling, barely above 0 in the speed stakes. Not sure why an upgrade would change things, although the default clinet did change to Transmission with Hardy. Tried several torrents, all with 20-plus seeders, but speeds didn't improve.

Have been looking round google but there's not much in the way of guides for linux with this model.

Any help would be much appreciated - this is driving me mad!

Blair

Thanks for your reply,

Saw that posting earlier but don't think it's relevant in this case. I still have Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon on a separate partition and torrents there are not a problem - apologies, I probably should have mentioned that in the original post.

That's why I'm wondering whether the change in default client is to blame for the slow download speeds.

Last time I set up port-forwarding was years ago (that was ubuntu as well) and I remember virtually nothing about how I did it - I did write notes in case I ever needed to do it again, but I have no idea where they are now!

The 302g is a modem, not a router, so you can't do port forwarding per se. What you need to do is create IP-based redirection rules which redirect traffic from and to your static local IP address on the appropriate port for your torrent software.

See the link below for a list of application-specific instructions.
