Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone here has used www.xtremesystems.co.nz or www.nzlaptops.co.nz? Any comments?

Looking at buying a Mac Pro for work and those two shops have them for pretty decent prices, although obviously second hand.

Any thoughts? Anything to look out for when buying second hand systems like this? They come with a 12 month warranty.

Cheers

NZ Laptops obviously charges a premium on private buying prices but they are a name I have heard of and I think they have been around a while - which is something to look out for when buying second hand systems.

The likely source will be ex-lease machines from a business environment.

If the 12 month warranty is something that is attracting you to a purchase then make sure as best you can that the company is actually in a position to provide that warranty, and see if you can try to find out what previous customer experiences have been when it comes to after sales service (because if it is poor or non-existent then it defeats the purpose of paying a premium for the said warranty).

Thanks for that. "Ex-lease" sort of puts me off a bit, I'm guessing they would have likely been worked pretty hard in a lot of business environments. Doesn't give me a lot of hope for how much longer they would last.

I'm not really sure but the usual source for these kinds of machines does seem to be ex-lease. Someone else might be able to confirm or deny.

FYI I bought a 2010 8-core Mac Pro today from NZ Laptops. The guy was super helpful, great service all round (and a free SSD caddy thrown in).

Loving the machine, my video rendering times have been cut in half. Tempted to look at getting 2x 3.33GHz 6-core CPUs and throwing them in ;)
