Googled it but didn't really have any luck.

Using a Mac 24inch WS with OSX Leopard 10.5 ??

Im wanting to watch some movies on my other computer the mac. Has a way better clearer & sharper WS 24inch and is just pure awesome for media.. Anyways so Ive got some "ripped" movies all in Blu-Ray that Ive been trying to watch and when ever they get close to the end they just all stop playing for no apparent reason. Could be from 10 or 2 minutes till the end it will just go to a black screen I cant even start the movie over and skip to the part it just locks up?

All the movies play fine on this PC no problems straight till the end?

Currently Im using "VLC" to watch the movies but is sucking way to much and "Quick time" supports jack s***

Any help would be appreciated, if Ive left anything out please tell me >.<

HI PulseNZ,
I don't know what might be causing the Blu-ray specfic problem.However, regarding Quicktime, have you installed Perian [www.perian.org].This will install all the popular codecs, so Quicktime Player (and Quicklook under 10.5) can play AVI's.

+1 for Perian.
Perian will make your Mac much more media friendly and will enable playback of most formats within all the Mac apps, including Frontrow, Quicktime, finder info and Quicklook.
What format are your rips in? VLC shouldn't have a problem playing most files either. How much memory is in your iMac?

Apple have no direct support for Blu-Ray itself as "it's a bag of hurt" (suspect they didn't want to pay the licensing fees). I'm not sure even Perian will add playback support to Quicktime but it certainly wouldn't hurt to try, and Perian is pretty much a necessary add-on for any Mac as their standard codec support is so limited. If that's still no good then there's not much option other than VLC.

As has been already mentioned, the standard OSX support for codecs is rather limited, perian should help, but as an aside do you know what the actual codec that your "bluray" movies are in, you say they are ripped, so I asuume they have been transcoded into something ather than the native H.264.

WellyGary they will probably be in x264 still, but in a container like mkv or ts. there's not much point encoding blu-ray to anything less than x264 because you may as well just rip a dvd if you're going to do that.

that said, its possible these are raw blu-ray rips sans encoding at all. i think vlc plays these as a disc from the hard drive.

PulseNZ can you confirm either way when you get a chance please?

Gah Yes, Now Perian works fine but doesn't have the option to remove subtitles in Quicktime , YES these are Blu-Ray rips , Sorry about that forgot

Nope you didn't you mentioned that in the original post, what you still haven't said though is whether they are raw rips - ie just a straight copy of the original disc, or a single encoded file like mkv or ts. or an iso?

Sorry just want to be sure we're on the same page.
