Has anyone else observed that the Apple site loads much faster in Safari than in Firefox.

That would be right. Safari 4 is faster than Firefox 3.5. Do a Google search to compare the speeds of all the browsers.

Using Safari 4 on my iMac with Snow Leopard is very quick!

I recommend Iron by SR Ware, it's based on the open source Chromium (which Google use to make Chrome) it uses the web kit rendering engine (same as Safari, except Safari doesn't update as frequently) but with the faster V8 java script engine.

It basically Google Chrome with a few annoying things removed and a few interesting things added.

Firefox has been getting slower lately imo.

Iron doesn't appear to be available for OSX yet - if I'm reading the SR Ware site correctly.

I like the sound of an open source browser that's not as Google-locked as Chrome.

I still prefer FF over Safari - because of the plugins. Adblock Plus in particular!

I'll stay with 64 bit Safari in SnowKitty rather than 32 bit FF :)
Actually, Stainless would be used before FF.
