Hi Everyone,

I have an iMac running Snow Leo (haven't taken the plunge to lion just yet) an have been trawling the web to find a solution here.
I want to basically have my NAS mounted and ready to go on start up of the computer

WHAT I HAVE DONE SO FAR:
I have manged to mount the NAS easily enough locally and the icon appears on the desktop i have then dragged that icon into the "startup" programs unders the user preferences etc in settings....

Technically it does work when i now boot up (it mounts to the desktop etc) - i see the icon, however what also happens is that it seems to automatically open the mounted drive/folder in FINDER. -
Bit a nuisence etc.. Starting up the computer and having to close finder everytime.....Is there a way for it to mount "nicely" without having to open in finder at the same time?

I know there are different scripts etc possibly even an app out there that may help,?? however i am not skilled at the basic terminal commands etc.... but if someone can write a bit of a command sequence etc i woudl eb very thankful! -or suggest a small app that can get me sorted - also appreciated?

How do you mount your NAS? Using Samba (SMB) or AFP?

Thanks, I use AFP - generally just go to the "Connect to server" command under finder

Thanks for the above suggestions
I managed to use a little app called "automator" that is loaded with OSX (Under aplications)

Created a workflow
Saved as an app
Put this in my startup
DONE!

There is actually a really simple way of doing it.

Just drag the NAS share/volume into the startup items of your user .. done! :-)

The other issue you will most likely run into is that a lot of NAS devices won't support OSX Lion very well (Apple changed the AFP protocol apparently, and things like Time Machine just doesn't work anymore)
An upgrade of Netatalk on the NAS devices is required, but I think only Netgear have the fixed version available because they have donated to the Netatalk project, the other vendors are being denied the fixed version by the developers of Netatalk ... not sure how friendly that is in regards to open source and what not, but I suppose they wrote it they can decide)

So .. mif you want to go to OSX Lion, make sure you check your NAS is compatible first :-)

I think that is what the OP originally did, but he did not want the window to open each time.

I have a networked drive for media. I added an alias to my desktop directly under the macintosh one. This lets me mount the drive by double clicking. Alternatively as another poster mentioned, add it to the start up list (preferences/users).
