Hi There!

I thought it might be an interesting idea to hear what advertising slogans you consider to be pretty grim ?

Mine have to do with the Mad Butcher..

I don't know about anyone else, but I have no interest in "beating the Mad Butchers Meat" and I am pretty sure that they are encroaching on false advertising by stating they have NZ's best meat, I'd be interested to know how that can make that claim and what evidence they are relying on.

Anyone else got any?

I've always had a bit of an issue with the likes of LV Martins "It's the putting right that counts". Similar to the endless attempts at an additional warranty purchase etc.

The bit that gets me is the underlying belief that their products will fail. Like what sort of crappy quality are you selling if you're urging me to cover myself from the outset for when it breaks?

I skip most ad breaks because, to be blunt, most of them are pretty annoying. Actually purchased a new DVD recorder in the boxing day sales, but haven't installed it yet as the dratted Freeview compliance means I will lose the magic 60-second skip button........

I particularly hate how the ad seems to be 25% louder than the programme it's inserted in, and that more and more ads seem to be of the "loud and shouty" variety. But since the thread is about specific ads, my three particular hates are:

- the shouty large blonde woman screaming that Big Save Furniture are overstocked and it all has to go.
- The "Rugs, Rugs, three days only unbelievable prices....." one
- As GregV says, the bloody Harvey Norman ones

Anything for Big Save furniture, mad butcher is up there too.

Of course for a lot of people in Christchurch it will be the State Insurance - Ain't nothing going to break my stride....

Actually the TVNZ "Even out the volume" ad is pretty annoying, especially since when he shout's it certainly doesn't seem to be evened out...

Ah, State. That ad's especially bad because in reality, I'm pretty sure that "destroyed exports to China" is the exact kind of thing that results in State denying you coverage.

Harvey Norman worst. I'm sure they are losing customers over that one. Noel Leeming possibly. The Dick Smith ones with the endless puns on 'dick'. Any adVertising using the ironic humor voice and similar bfm marketing tropes.

The mildly retarded woman on the big save furniture ads is very annoying indeed.

Godfrey's vacuum cleaners needs a mention too with their yelling crap about "the boss just rang from the gold coast and it's all gotta go!!!!!!!!"

Harvey Norman is annoying ad inifinitum as are the rug sales ads

and I'm getting sick of the folding ladder guy too. Any ad that goes for over 30 seconds is very annoying. There are several of these "mini infomercials" going for bras, ladders, makeup, etc, etc

Most ads are annoying tbh, seems to be a lack of clever ads and a majority of morons bellowing as much crap in 30 seconds as they can

And when is this loudness thing coming into effect? The sooner the better...

It's not so much the ads themselves for me, although some are definitely worse than others, it's the repetition of them that gets my goat. Particularly when they screen the same commercial (althought ususally abridged) two or more times during and ad-break.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

TiVo = no adverts :-)

...but I do hate the new type of website add like seen on Stuff occasionally where a billboard rolls out of seemingly nowhere and covers the whole web page, and it takes ages of searching to find the 'close' icon.

BTW, does anyone know if Harvey Norman are having a sale this weekend? LOL

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

The thing is that the most annoying ones, are the most successful. Which is why there are more and more of them. Thus I don't tend to buy from any stores that I hate the ads for.

If you want to pick on the Dick Smith "dick" puns, I think Cabbots is worse. "Ah, boys and their decks". Yeah, that's what you meant.
