It makes me sick to my stomach the number of people we hear spouting anti vax stuff these days.

I'd like to encourage everyone to start referring to the anti-vax movement as "pro-child-death". Because that's what it is - it's about time we stopped treating them like they were "taking a stand" against something, and started calling them out at every opportunity. There is no evidence to support their position, and it must be reported as such any time the media deals with pro-child-deathers.

People have been spouting anti-vax stuff since the days of Edward Jenner (early 1800s) - nothing new about that.

People have been spouting anti-vax stuff since the days of Edward Jenner (early 1800s) - nothing new about that.

In the 1800's there was some excuse for it, now there is none.

It all seems odd to me - we used to get most of our jabs at school and there was no option - you just got marched up to Matron's rooms and the nurse injected you!

I know someone who CANNOT be vaccinated, and they live in constant fear of their daughter contracting diseases at school from other parents decision to trust 'Herd Immunity".

What is most shocking is that some of these parents are educated and intelligent people who have allowed a few urban myths or misinformation to put themselves and others at risk.

A lot of people saying they don't do it as their kids have bad reactions to mediction/needles. You have to wonder if the life threatening alternate is ever thought of against a bit if what could be compared to as minor suffering alternate to death.

My wife is a Doctor, and we had an acquaintance who used a similar argument, so my wife arranged for them to visit someone suffering from whooping cough in the hospital. Their kids were immunised the same day. That person is now very pro-vax.

If people could see kids sick with the stuff that people get from no vaccinations, you'd soon find a lot less non vaccinated people around.

Hmm the issue in reality is the ability of individuals to create and spread information that is simply untrue about vaccinations. However how that means a government should force medicate people is beyond me. Its a slippery slope, whats next, enforced contraception? Not sure how the Human rights organisation will see this..

All drugs come with some kind of risk, its about giving people informed information. They would be better off in my view, increasing laws against bad, or unsupported claims from anti vaccine groups

The vaccination rate for HPV is 65% in NZ females eligible, should all school females be forced into having it?

As someone who sat and injected himself with Clexane not 10 minutes ago, I think 99% of this is just FUD.

The concept of "informed consent" is crap when there is so much misinformation.

They should be handing out brochures showing what polio, tetanus, whooping cough are actually like. Then people can make an informed decision.

The fact that the WHO and by proxy NZ Public Health sector are okay with ramming breast feeding down everyone's throat when the evidence is tenuous, versus immunizations being a "choice" is beyond me.

Breast Feeding benefits tenuous? Err ok ?

My wife has a policy of strongly recommending it, and does have brochures etc supporting her stance on it, but it's NOT mandatory and therefore, in order to provide an overall level of care, you don't alienate people by ramming it down their throats.

While I agree whole heartedly with vaccination the proposed Australian solution is draconian and I would not like that to be considered here.

Curious where you stand on kids of parents on benefits being required to attend school and be taken to the doctor regularly?

None of this would be necessary if parents did their jobs properly.

As compared with vaccinations, yes. Very few studies have been done. Yet it is extremely heavily promoted while vaccinations are largely left up to individual choice.
