Hi.

I have an item owned by someone in Switzerland, with a value of $600 USD I would like to send to the US so I can collect when I am there.

Does the USA have any import duties or anything likely to trip me up if I did this?

Anyone done anything similar?

Depends on whether you declare the value and how you ship it.

Please note that Switzerland is not in the EU.

I thought EU was also acceptable shorthand for Europe.

Do you have specifics around what price requires declaration and fee's?

Not really EU is generally thought to be European Union. type it in to google and see what you get :)

Well I'm not too familiar with import duties into the US (I would have to Google it which would bring me the same results as you would get)..

I just wanted to highlight Switzerland is a specific case.

Whilst being based in the UK and shipping products all around Europe we always had to request carnets (import duty exemptions/certificates) for demo kit entering Norway, Switzerland and Turkey.
Technically even when shipping a box from London to Zürich it means that you will have to pay duty, and some products are even chargeable when exiting the country.

The UK will find itself in a similar position after a successful Brexit which will have huge implications on free movement of commercial goods between EU countries and the UK, but this is another discussion :)
