Hey guys

I was looking at buying a car and after investigations found that its going to be much cheaper to import from Japan.
I have been going through a few NZ outfits who offer the service to get ur car here to NZ and you pay them a fixed fee for the services. The guys I have been in touch with charge about NZ$1000-2000.
I am looking at a Mazda demio sport 2004 and my budget is NZ$9500, grade4.5+(low kms as well), which seems like a distant dream here in NZ, and in Japan looks like there is a possiblilty. I have registered with a Japan auction and have reviewed previous sale prices

I have found these two companies so far, unfortunately there is no reference or any link I can check up to make sure they pack don't pack up and leave the country once I have paid up. Any suggestions?

A friend used this company a few years ago to get a car imported. Was a painless excercise and the guy was very honest and good to deal with. Unfourtently thats all i have for you though.

I run www.subzerocars.co.nz, this is going to sound a little odd but I highly recommend you look for something on Trade-me or on a local yard. Importing just became alot more expensive as the 0.50% cut in interest rates meant the NZDJPY rate fell from around 82 to 69, meaning the cost just went up. There are always risks to importing on top of these "fixed fees", in that the vehicle can always arrive and need additional work to get it complied for NZ roads. When I offer this service you pay nothing until arrival and you are sitting in the vehicle, cost plus $1,000 NZD and any additional fees. I have an Excel model on my website to help with your pricing, but I think you'll find it is temporarily better to buy local until all the yards have been cleaned of existing stock (and 82 plus againist yen).

I took ur advice ross and have been visiting a few car yards and turners too....maybe I'll get one from them.
