I like Mongoose car alarms, some of these are also factory fitted - e.g. Ford Falcons. Most car alarms are fine, as their main idea is to be a deterrent. But then, you don't want them to unreliable that they keep going off all the time.

I think if its a new car, and you don't need anything specialised; factory fitted will be fine (would also be covered by new car warranty).

If you require something more specialised, then an after market, I suggest Mongoose, would be the way to go.

Make sure you do get one that includes an engine immobiliser - most should, but do check.

I have a mongoose alarm at the moment m20 but the thing is it has a override switch. you would only have to break the ignition so it would turn to on then just press the override switch very eazy. im looking at geting a new car. im think about geting a viper alarm what do you think? it would only take 30 seconds to bypass the mongoose one that i have

I see this as being the "ambulance at the bottom of the hill" solution - you should make your car less appealing to be broken into or stolen by hiding valuables, not parking in suspect places etc.

The issue I see with most car alarms is not their features but the fact that people ignore them. Take a busy car park for example, if you hear a car alarm, do you go over and take a look, or ignore it?

It's good for if you are at home, but then the best solution is a locked garage.
