After the latest "terrorist incident" (sounded more like a lone nutter) the TSA are introducing even more security measures:

Apparently the new measures are "unpredictable" so as to keep terrorists on their toes.

Now anyone who has an ounce of sense and follows Bruce Schneier's blog will know that most of these measures are absolutely useless - here's a short list of some of the classics:

• Passengers kept seated during the last hour of flight.


• Cabin lights kept on for the whole flight.


• Only one carry on bag.


• No electronic devices during first hour of flight.


• Turning off the electronic map that shows the location of the plane.

Now I like to ridicule these rules as much as everyone else, but it's always easier to criticise so I'm interested to know what constructive ideas we can offer for improving security,

My suggestion? I've never understood the mania for removing nail clippers and suchlike as potential weapons when passengers are allowed to carry glass bottles of alcohol on board. Some airports don't allow you to carry the duty free alcohol around the airport, they hand it to you as you get on the plane. Why not keep it locked up and only hand it over as you disembark? This would prevent the worst drunk passenger problems, and please the airlines as they get to sell you more alcohol onboard.
