This is a little self serving (I run the company that offers this service) but I came across this old post and have been mooching around geekzone as a result and have come to the conclusion I should hang out here more often.

In answer to the question though. You can now get instant TXT alerts to the grabaseat deals from Travelcafe. I've been 'eating my own dog food' and have scored a couple of $1 fares in the last week (using the service myself) so I know it works.

The TXT alert service is proving to be pretty popular but I'd be really interested in some geek feedback. What would make it better?

As you can tell I haven't spent much on UI design for it (i haven't spent anything on design in fact) and if anyone can recommend a local UI designer for this sort of thing (and a few other similar projects in the pipeline) I'd be grateful.

Cheers,

Interesting idea. For all those out there that access their email's on their cellphones they can avoid having to pay for texts by using your free email alert service :-)

Did you read the FUG?

You can also get the texts by setting up an alert via Twitter, if you're following @grabaseat Laughing

That works ok for me

I was using that too, but I was getting a ton of TXTs (one for every individual fare released) and I couldn't choose to be alerted only to the cities or dates I want to know about. In fact that was kind of where the inspiration came from.

Our free email alerts to the grabaseat deals are really popular and being a Blackberry user for years (and now an iPhone and maybe soon an Android?) it was working pretty well for me too. But we added the ability to be more choosy to with the TXT alerts and they happen quicker - almost instant in fact.
