Auckland has recently become my new home and I must say that it is a wonderful place. So far I am not regretting the move one bit.

I currently stay up towards Browns Bay on the North Shore and take public transportation into work each day. Techincally, you could say that I live on a bus. Since it seems that is where i spend a large portion of my day. Waking at 5am and getting home at 7pm i find myself constantly almost drifting off to sleep only to be disturbed by my head hitting the window as the driver slams on breaks or when the person next to me clears the mucus from their nasal passage.

But I digress...

The real question is, what portable device would you recommend I get. I need something to pass the time and to give me a "technology fix" while I am inbetween my work and home PCs.
At the moment I am considering a PSP as it will satisfy the gamer in me and also enable me to watch some movies on UMD or listen to some loud angry music.

The gaming side would really be a "nice to have", but anything that has at least music and video capabilities would be good enough. Obviously storage would come into play here too, so the more the better.

Shiver out...

The PSP idea sounds right, but there's some rumours about the UMD format being dismissed pretty soon, which would make finding the right media for it somewhat harder.

A media player device (no gaming) would be ideal, but that covers music and movies - and movie downloads don't exist in New Zealand yet, so you would have to endure hours of ripping, decoding, encoding DVD content to these players. Which is not fun and take a time you might not have.

A PDA would probably be a better fit actually. I am more of a dev type person than a gamer and games are expensive. Especially in the console world.

With regards to the whole ripping story, that wouldn't really affect me much. I generally go for music DVDs actually and when I'm into watching a particular one quite often, I will stick that on my PC.
It saves having to watch the annoying FBI warning each time and also gets me past the shoddy navigation system that I find software DVD players have.

Any recommendations as to which PDA would suit this type of behavior? I was under the impression that most are aimed at "business" and wouldn't have the capacity I need and perhaps not too good for videos either?
