Hi,

I'm moving property next week and I've found out that I'll be getting fibre (BOF) through WorldxChange.

We need wireless internet at our house.

They'll (Chorus) will be providing all the equipment inside the house for fibre but as the fibre modem will be inside a cabinet in the garage, the wireless will not be very good. They said we would need another wireless router inside the house to take advantage of wireless internet.

However, we are currently using a wireless modem router (DLink DSL 2730B) and was hoping that we could use that as just a wireless router and turn off the modem settings somehow. I want to know if this is possible?

The modem router is a fairly new one (bought 6 months ago).

I rang up WorldxChange technical support and they said as long as we can set one of the LAN ports to a WAN port, this would be possible. So, I rang DLink technical support and they didn't provide much help.

I am hoping that someone explain if this is possible and if this wireless modem router be compatible for what I want to do.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi, yes you can use it as an AP, but not a router as that will be handled by the RGW provided by WxC, so all you need to do is turn the DHCP server in the Dlink off and connect the Dlink via one of its LAN ports (not WAN) to the RGW. Ideally if you can move the management IP address of the DLink into the same subnet (but not DHCP pool) of the RGW then it will be easier to manage.

Cheers
Cyril
