At the moment I'm on a 128Kbps upload plan and my torrent download speed is nothing great - mostly around 20-40 KBs and sometimes up to a 100 or so. Will a full speed upload plan improve this at all?

Azureus shows my NAT is all good and the torrents show up green when downloading...

Yes more upload speed means you'll get more download speed. However with ADSL, if you use your full upload bandwidth then your download speed suffers heavily.

I'm on 128k upload and fullspeed download. I usually limit my uploads to 6k tops.

traffic management (application layer filtering) is worse than not having full-speed upstream. if you're on Go Large - change plan or ISP for faster torrents.
what torrent download speeds do you get with 128k up pepe?

I'm on Xtra Adventure so not traffic managed. Reducing my upload limit from 13K which is what Azureus recommended down to 6K has made quite a difference and now I'm up to more like 50K on average.

I am on slingshots full down / full up plan and have my azureus client set to unlimited down and 35k up. Seems to work well as I usually have download speeds in excess of 200k.

The bigger upload speed means I get a higher priority at downloading. Works really well and is the reason I am not on one of those 128k up plans as its just too slow.

You also have to remember that once you have finished downloading, you also have to wait for it to finish uploading or untill your share ratio gets to 100% or 1.00. If you dont then you will be de-prioritised on that site or tracker and shouldnt expect much in the way of download speeds.

If you decide you do want to go for a full up speed plan, then I suggest looking at http://www.netchoice.co.nz

Im on the Go Large plan. On national torrents i can get 500+ KB/sec, but international it maxes out about 35-40 KB/sec. Haven't seen any signs of the so called 'shaping' yet, ive used about 33GB in the two weeks ive been on Go Large

I think someone should setup a site and tracker dedicated to new zealand based torrents with nz only users. It would make the speeds much better than international ones and the range of files would be smaller, and therefore more popular. A quick google search doesnt return any nz based torrent sites yet.

To make it safe, the ideal place to put the servers would be on sealand after the pirate bay takes it over, Just in-case someone does post a pirated piece of creative art and the legality of the tracker comes under pressure.

Well if you think about it. The tracker can be on sealand or in another country because only a small amount of traffic goes to the tracker. The main exchange in data is between users within NZ, and they only talk to the tracker to find out who has what. Also if you use Azureus, you have the use of the distributed tracker so it saves even more bandwidth to the tracker.
