Hi, I just got connected to VDSL with Snap but I am just wondering as I can squeeze just a little bit out of it if iI had a splitter which I don't need. I have over 5 jackpoints. They are all connected with a blue and white cable, if I was to talk out those cables where I dont use the jackpoint would this cut out my internet or is it safe to just take those wires out?

A splitter is mandatory for VDSL if you have any more the a single jack point feed direct from demarc to modem on naked connection.

So far seems well on VOIP, no problem at all just curious if I disconnected those extra jackpoints by removing those cables would it maybe speed up my connection just by a little. And if its safe to do it that way.

If the jack points are not used then yes it could help but you have not provided any modem stats

Without knowing your actual location it's impossible to directly answer that question.

The simple reality is however that either a single jackpoint or master filter if you have more than one jackpoint is mandatory if you want the best VDSL2 performance.

You can take the extra wires out but if you don't understand what you're doing I would recommend getting your ISP to lodge a job with Chorus to come and sort things out for you for $199

Hi, I would most definitely be reducing your wiring to the essential for the modem, but just removing the jacks is fruitless you need to remove the wiring going to the jacks. Sometimes this can be hard to workout, which is why a technician can use tools that identify all the wiring.

So disconnecting them is pointless? I don't want to spend any money on a splitter now if I wanted coffeebaron would have a message from me long ago. All I need to know is if I disconnected the BLUE and WHITE cable from jackpoints I don't use if that would cause any issues?

I'm not going to answer that because without knowing your exact wiring setup any advice I give could well break your setup.

Don't take this the wrong way but in all honesty if you don't know what to do and need to ask questions you clearly don't know enough about phone wiring to be making changes yourself.

As mentioned simply removing the wires from the jack does not necessarily remove the wires going to the jack from the circuit.

You need to achieve a single unsplit twisted pair from the demarc to the modem, if you can actually achieve that on what you can see then fine, otherwise you will need to tone out the pairs to find the real wire layout and reduce it as mentioned.

Ok. Just had my work mate come in and disconnect my unused 2 phone jacks, disconnect this little telecom filter thing which looks like a big capacitor? (not a master filter) and connected the ETP straight to the DSL and only jack in the house. Have VDSL2 with Snap. Sync speeds did not really go up. Do I have wait for DLM to do it's job now on the exchange/cabinet? He said no need for a master filter as there is nothing in middle now. Just ETP straight to that telephone jack.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Hi, as we have mentioned before, if you have just the one and only phone jack that the modem connects to and the wiring does infact go straight to that jack and not by an alarm etc then you dont need a master filter, this is valid if you have either no POTs service or the only pots device connects at the same point as the modem then a simply filter at that jack to split them is fine, although for VDSL I would still recommend a master filter in that instance.

Any other arrangement with more wiring than mentioned above then a master filter is the only way you can be sure that you have a clean and correct transmission line between the DSLAM and the modem.

hmm. I will wait for 10 days and see if DLM does push my sync rates up. Sitting at 26.9Mbit/s for downstream. Naked VDSL2 connection with VOIP and no master filter. Less than 350M from the cabinet.

How come nobody has mentioned that he is on 17a profile? Remediable errors are also a little high I would make sure it is plugged into it own power socket. Also yes if you find the jackpoint connected directly to the demarc then disconnect the rest and only use this one. Not great attenuation but 17a that is ridiculous I want to know how or why some are getting this profile.
