Hello everyone,

Really simple question, (you can pretty much figure it out from the subject line).. not sure how simple the answer is going to be..

Who is liable for install costs of UFB..
Here's the curve ball.. maybe.

My home is down a fairly long, slightly curved CONCRETE driveway.

Now, I have read a a number of statements and documents online pertaining to this subject and have come up with a lot of contradictory info..

All I want to know is.. will I have to pay anything??

It depends on which LFC has the contract for your area.
You are referencing a UFF link, so I'll assume you're in an area within the Waikato/BOP/Taranaki UFB rollout.
In which case the answer to your question (generally speaking) is that the LFC won't charge any extra install fee because you have a long driveway.
Caveats are :
The RSP is free to charge you what they like regardless of what the LFC charges to them.
There are a special set of circumstances with regard to multi unit complexes where the LFC can charge an additional install fee.
I don't know everything.

If you're in a Chorus area then different rules apply and extra charges might apply.

As for the provider being able to change the customer..That's a bit BS don't you think?

Also, Orion for example states their contractors will not attempt to repair any damage done other than lay grass. Is this the same for government install?

I've not heard of any Retail Service Provider charging residential customers any install fee. They do usually need you to sign up to a term in a similar way as they do for traditional ADSL broadband connections (however the term may be longer).

Pyes Pay is within the UFF build area. The RSP's costs are more than just what the LFC charges them. The RSP might be providing additional CPE (such as wifi AP) which they charge you for as part of the installation.

With regard to reinstatement (putting the grass back etc), I don't think UFF have made a public comment on the degree of reinstatement. I think it would be reasonable to expect such things as pouring new concrete to repair a driveway if they have cut a trench along your driveway, but if your driveway has a complex pattern stamped in it then that might not be replicated. Likewise, if you have expensive imported pavers in the front yard and one is damaged then you could probably expect a similar locally sourced, but possibly not perfected matched to the imported pavers.
If you have something unusual / expensive in your front yard it would be wise to work with the installer closely to ensure everyone is happy when the install is completed.

You might be best to contact UFF and get them to come have a look at your situation so that they can determine IF there will be any additional charge for your particular install.

Your getting fiber in Pyes Pa!!! I have a house there and last time I looked it wasn't on the horizon..

I think it depends on where in Pyes Pa, dont think it goes all the way to Rotorua but i believe it does go up a ways. Run a search on your address on one of the many sites.
I am early Pyes Pa Rd.. Near Stableford Dr.

For Tauranga, UFF has published the following reinstatement policy.

Quite funny. I wrote the original UFF policy and what you see on the website is the end result after the website people simplified it.

I went with Orcon in Auckland and had similar concerns about their T&C's regarding costs and reinstatement.

It is true the LFC doesn't charge for simple residential installs and will reinstate the property as best as possible, the RSP (which you as the customer have the relationship with) is still entitled to charge costs.

At this time Orcon are trying to win customers and they advised me I could decline the fibre install at any time, up to the point where the chorus (Auckland LFC) team are on site and provided their build solution, if I disagreed with how they proposed to install the fibre, I was entitled to decline and they would stop, no questions, no charges... but no fibre either!

As it happened the installers were very professional, offered a couple solutions for ONT placement and all is good.

Well expect the Genius box needing a restart every couple of weeks and getting incorrectly invoiced overage for the first month pro rated bill. Different story, different topic.

TLDR?

Place the order, get the team on site and see what solutions they offer, you like one, get fibre, you don't order cancelled.
