Hey im really sick off xtra and want to change to another isp but i would like someone who can give me unlimited download or sumthing close as i generally download around 60gb a month but im not to bothered about upload speed as it not a big factor for me.

Does anyone know of an isp apart from xtra who can help me with my demands

Anyhoo, you could try Woosh, they have a wired go-large style plan.
Look at the Orbit Flat Rate plan.

Welcome to Geekzone... The next logical question is "how much are willing to pay for unlimited without restrictions"? And "Where are you located"?

If you are in Wellington or Christchurch I can recommend TelstraClear. They don't have "unlimited" plans, but you can get 80GB allowances on their 10Mbps plans. Also consider Woosh.

I am sure there are other alternatives and people will comment...

Yes, I definitely recommend Woosh. I'm on their Orbit Flat Rate plan and have found no problem so far. Unlike Xtra, you can turn off interleaving on Woosh. YouTube also loads very quickly.

If you look at this link it will list the flatrate plans avaliable. I unfortunatly have to say that xtra is one of the cheapest in the 49.95 price group.

Maxnet and Orcon are good at providing a reliable service but are a little more expensive, but I would recomend them over Xtra anyday.

Yeah, right!

I had that thought for one moment and phoned them up about an hour ago. The rep actually hanged me up and refused to give me her name, when I was trying to understand why the speed of all their plans were still limited at 3.5mb. Just unbelievable! I didn't expect to be jumped on to grab my business when there was so much competition, but definitely not to be treated in such a rude way! I'd say stay away from them!

Interesting. Their website www.woosh.com states that they have some max down and max up plans giving a theoratical ~8mbps to the roadside cabinet, but telecom generally only run 3.5mb links for many users from these cabinets back to the exchange. That could be one reason why.
Woosh simply wouldnt know what the speed you will get is and therefore are being good as a business by not over promising like the other isp's seem like they are doing to you. I would love to get 3.5mb at home. I am on a max / max and my down speed never goes above 1.8mb.

They also sell the old 2mb down plans in their lower range. It may be cheaper for them to provide these plans than to offer the newer full speed plans. Many advanced users wouldnt notice a difference between 2mb and full speed anyway because of the slower links back to the exchange.

If you were talking about wireless, its a network constraint that they cant really help. I dont think you were talking about wireless as they have a design speed of 1.6mbps.

That loud female rep I talked to was pretty adamant about 3.5 mb limit for wired boardband, which was an acceptable speed if the people there were decent enough not to hang up potential customers when we have so many options and refuse to even give their names so we can communicate misunderstandings. Again, for anyone who’s even considering Woosh, I’d advise to stay away from them!
