Just wanting to know a little more information about VDSL cabinets as UFB is still many years away from some areas, Auckland rollout seems particularly slow in some areas. VDSL will have to fill the gap for now.
My question is for a cabinet to be listed as VDSL capable on say Chorus wholesale does this in anyway indicate how it is fed. For example are all VDSL cabinets fibre fed or are their copper fed cabinets offering a lower quality VDSL service?

All cabinets supporting VDSL2 are fibre fed... Infact there are now somewhere in the vicinity of 3800ish fibre fed cabinets in NZ.

All VDSL (And Chorus UFB) cabinets will be Alcatel Lucent ISAM 7302 and be fibre fed with a 1 or 10gb Ethernet uplink(s). These customers are known as EUBA customers from Chorus.

The maximum distance of VDSL is around 800 meters give or take a bit. But you can get reasonable ADSL2+ speeds up to 1.5km-2km.

If it's not fibre fed (or fed by older ATM Fibre) then it's probably an Alcatel Lucent ASAM 7300 or Conklin and are BUBA customers. These are only ADSL1. Some cabinets are being upgraded under RBI others are not if you live really rural.

Thanks for the great info and fast replies.
Good to know about the fibre fed cabinets. Did not realise fibre had made its way into some of the suburban cabinets that recently. On the old telecom cabinetisation spreadsheets it has two columns, Copper Feeder Host Exchange and Fibre Feeder Host Exchange. What are these referring to specifically?
