hi,

I just bought a asus rt-n66u router, I don't like telecom's free one as its performance is really bad.

I tried to get it work with the fibre connection but couldn't get it work. do i need to configure something specifically for non telecom router?

I set the configuration type to "PPPOE" and put user@xtrabb.co.nz/user , but it still doesn't connect.

Can someone give me some help plz, really appreciated!.

Not sure how telecoms UFB works but have you tried the dhcp setting rather than pppoe?

I believe Telecom UFB using PPPoE with VLAN tagging, so you need to be able to set VLAN ID of 10 on the WAN interface.

Not sure if you can do it with the stock Asus firmware, you'll have to check the web admin.

If the Asus firmware can't do it, you can always flash TomatoUSB Shibby mod on that device (custom third party open source firmware).

Dy default all UFB, VDSL2+ and EUBA based ADSL2+ connections (if you want to use PPPoE rather than PPPoA) require VLAN10 tagging on the WAN interface.

I would highly doubt this router would support this.

You could pick up a managed switch for ~$100 which will enable you to get the VLAN or use a Mikrotik router to do this for you as a transparent bridge for less. Based upon you having to ask this question however I suspect configuring either may may be on your technical ability though.

I have an RT-N16 and its stock firmware does indeed support VLAN tagging. I would assume that the stock firmware on its replacement (the N66U) would have this feature too.

I have managed to get it working tonight, I've flashed the tomato firmware to it and it supports VLAN now. After I tag vlan10 to the wan port, everything works.

So far , haven't found any issues. seems stable and fast.

It's weird that asus's offical firmware doesn' t support vlan , considering this router is almost 400 bucks and it's supposed to be top brand of family routers!

Also Telecom should at least put up a FAQ page for people who intend to use non telecom routers, I called their customer support they have no idea of what i was talking about.

Telecom presumably don't want to encourage the use of other routers for the reason they can't support hardware they don't provide. I've only heard good things about the hardware they're providing so I'm surprised you were so quick to ditch it.
