I've managed to get ASUS RT-N66 working with Telecom fiber broadband a couple of months ago. I changed the firmware to tomatousb which basically has VLAN support. It has been working perfectly in the last a couple of months. Until last week, it stops working. I tried different set of configurations, restore firmware, upgrade firmwares, it still doesn't work.

I wonder if it is because the Telecom has done something in their end ? because I used the Telecom's free router and it works fine. The only thing I find out so far is that TomatoUSB for RT-N66 does not support 802.1q tagging,

however what I don't understand is that it worked previously,

Have you guys got similar issues?

TomatoUSB does support VLAN tagging.
If you're not confident with a CLI you should use the VLAN build of the firmware.

VLAN10 tagging is standard for all ISP's unless they request an untagged UNNI port which means you'll have no CIR. No other VLAN is used (or can be used) so if your Telecom router is working there the issue has to be your configuration.

Sounds strange that it was working, could just be a compatibility issue in the firmware.

Which version of Tomato USB are you running?

It might be worth updating to the latest version of one of the actively developed mods eg: Toastman, Shibby etc

You need to use the vlan build of toastman, not sure if shibby has vlan support

I used shibby, it worked fine in the last two months, I haven't changed anythings, it just suddenly went offline and was unable to reconnect ever since.

I used tomato usb shibby.

on the vlan setting screen, it gives options from vlan 0 - vlan 15 or something, but on the checkbox of tagging, it was always disabled.

however it worked fine before, i don't know if it is because telecom has done something.

RTN66 should be quite resilient router, shouldn't easily go faulty, I've only got it for 2 months.
all the configures are pretty much default.

I wonder if you were possibly incorrectly provisioned with an untagged UNNI port and didn't actually have a VLAN configured so it worked, and have then been moved to a standatd tagged port so your router stops working?

at the begining, rtn66 didn't work, i changed the firmware to tomatousb shibby and set vlan10 to wan, then it worked.

I am not sure if what you said is the case, it maybe just accidentally worked ?

We have just had issues with Chorus ONT's after authentication the strip vlan tags on inbound traffic:(
Not helpful.

Chorus had to do an update to the ONT for our impacted customers, may be the same for Telecom?

Can you please describe a bit more about what happened to you ?

for mine, Telecom's router works fine, only my asus-rtN66 stops working.

So I guess ONT should be fine right?

What we saw with a tcpdump, was the auth sequence finished, all vlan tags on al packets where in place.
Once that was complete and the session was established the ONT would then strip vlan tags from inbound frames.

Some CPE and Laptops didnt care, and just functioned. The genius did care, as it should and trafic then failed, as it should.

To test it we ran two scenarios, one a laptop with vlan10 setup and ran packet captures.
The other we had a cisco switch between the ONT and the Genius with a span port configured.

Both times you could see vlan tags were missing after authentication.

Dont know if you have the same issue.

I think you are probably right, after a few research on the internet, I finally realized that what I had configured in tomatousb shibby is a untagged vlan with vid=10 bridged to wan port which is incorrect in this case according to Telecom's requirement.

However it worked in the last a few months so I think Telecom probably put my account on a untagged vlan port and until sometime earlier this month they switched it to a tagged port so it stopped working.

I enabled the vlan trunk support in shibby and enabled the tagging option (this option is disabled if trunk support is not enabled) and then it worked again.

BTW,

Telecom's Technicolor is really bad, I could barely get any receptions in my bedroom and it was really slow as well.

Now since I get my asus back, i get pretty strong signal and much much faster connection.

Also Technicolor's GUI is badly designed and I found it to be extremely hard to use.
