Hi There!

I had read that after recently announced VDSL pricing changes, that a FULL install was required for all VDSL connections, but the cost of that was being spread over a 12 month term (As opposed to the $399 previously charged), is this correct? ETF/Clawback would apply if cancellation of service occurred before 12 months? Or does the free installation require a 24 month contract?

This depends on which ISP you are going with.

Why? It's a regulated product is it not?

Kind of.

A full install for new connections is definitely now required.

The ETCs are going to vary from ISP to ISP (as they are the ones that set the relationship between you and them).

In our case, we charge a connection fee that partly covers our costs getting you connected (time) and partly covers the event of you leaving before the term is up. Hence we can offer a no-contract service.

The terms between Chorus & the ISPs are confidential so I can't post any particulars here about how long the contract period is for, what the ETCs are and the specifics around you moving to another ISP before the contract period is up.

The ISPs may choose to absorb some or all of the setup cost if you go with a contract, and may choose to pass on some or all of the early termination fees if you leave. You do not directly have an agreement with Chorus, the ISP does.

Wiring cost isn't recovered over 12 months, it's a lot longer.
