Hi all,

I have a homeline with Flip and was previously with Slingshot which is where I got my phone number. Whenever my parent rings me on a toll call I hear a single beep, like the sound you get when someone is pressing one of the numbers on the phone when dialing. I hear it on my end but the caller can't hear it on theirs and it happens quite a few times during the conversation but I'm not doing anything to cause it.

I don't have call waiting or any other services set up with my phone as I mainly just use it for broadband. It doesn't do it with local calls. I've bought a new handset, the batteries are charged, just can't figure out why it happens. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing it? It did it when I was Slingshot as well.

Same network so it's not surprising the issue still exists.

As to what it is, it could be a number of things but I'm sure they'll be able to tell you.

They are using a cordless phone with the buttons on it and they are accidently pressing button on face or with hand holding the hand piece.

On rereading this are you meaning a DTMF tone?

I don't know what DTMF stands for, but it is possible it's my parent accidentally hitting buttons, she has issues with anything technological. I've asked her and she doesn't think she does. >

It would be strange if the Parent did it on every call to you, but you could check by calling them from your mobile.

Some peoples voices set off inband dtmf detection which will get replaced with an actual tone by the network.

That is why inband detection is bad.
