Hi there I am currently using a Cisco Small Business Router SRP527W.

I'm currently on ADSL but want to swap across to VDSL

I would also like to change providers (to Voyager Internet). They provide a managed router Zyxel VMG8324 for $10/month.

I am wondering whether my current Cisco SRP527W can be used with VDSL.
Or should I swap across to the Zyxel?

I'm using 2 VOIP phones in the office, and 4 PCs hooked up plus other devices on wifi.

The SRP527W will not do VDSL on it's own.

However, you could put a cheap Draytek 130 or Zyxel P870 in bridge mode with the SRP using ethernet WAN. You then just simply dial the PPP connection on the SRP and nothing changes.

$10/month seems a bit expensive for just simply supplying a router and managing it -unless there is something in particular they are sorting for you like a private VLAN or something. Who normally does your IT support? Talk to them about getting a new router in.

OK thanks. Do you think there will be a deterioration in quality/speed by doing this?
I could buy the Zyxel VMG8324 off Voyager for $195 and just use that router instead of the Cisco. Any downsides?
We're not using any advanced functions/VPN etc. Just standard wifi and 2 phones plugged in...and the Cisco's wifi is pretty poor anyway.

The only disadvantage is one of the 4 ethernet ports gets allocated as the WAN port, so you only have 3 LAN ports. Everthing else will work as it currently does on ADSL.

Voice will be different as the Zyxel SIP stack is poor compared to the Cisco. What difference this will make will depend entirely on who provides your VoIP services.

My VOIP provider is Conversant.

The IP phone is Cisco SPA 303

I use the exact same phone at home plugged into the Orcon Genius at home, and the quality is very good. Probably better than what I get at the office.

Would probably just buy the Zyxel for $195 then. That would be simple and cheap.
