Hi There!

Our premises is long and thin, and the backdoor leads to one street and our front door has a long concrete driveway that reaches the other. Our actual address states we are at the street with the long driveway,but where we would want the fibre installed and where it would be MUCH easier is on the other street. It also happens there is 2 months difference between when Chorus Maps shows Fibre to be available on the front vs the back street.

Is there a way to order UFB as if we were at the back street address?

When we looked at P2P Fibre, Telstra said they would come in off the back street.

Generaly the common infrastructure designs are based around firstly your address / then where you existing Comms infrastructure comes from.

Unlike a P2P fibre that can be run from a convenient main jnt etc just for you , the UFB network has to be designed for the possible connection of most if not all, which may mean that initialy it may not exactly be suitable/usable for some.

If the common network is all designed and built allong the front boundary and you request a connection - then on scopeing it is found that it is not then possible to conveiniently hook you up to that side (no Ducting or extremly hard/costly to install one etc), then arrangements will be made to hook you up to the back when that is done. Just to let you know this does happen (manly in some of the original areas) and connecttion points are rearanged in the 'spare spaces' as such to enable connections.

Right thanks for the clarification, so if I understand it, I can't request UFB yet as our back door, where all our comms and servers are, doesn't have a specific address on that street, but if we request it on the front address once it's available, it's likely they will connect through the back street entrance?

The cable is being laid within 1M of our back door, and 3M from our server cabinet (down) some stairs.

Unfortunately it's a big MDU with 12 tenancies as well which makes it more complicated. I am trying to source the documents from our preferred RSP so we can give it to the Body Corp and Property owners for signing off in advance....

Your front street address will be the one that will be used / Connections into MDUs are an addition to the common network build but extra connection points for the building are accounted for in the design of that 'Cabinet Area' (even though the Chorus design moveing forward dosent have cabinets) but the final connection point isn't actualy built as they go past along the road / When a request for connection comes in for that MDU then the actual physical design is created and built (after all the permission stuff etc). Normaly a specific Fibre Access Terminal (FAT) is installed in a common comms room/area for the use of the whole building and individual connections are built from there.

Hmm interesting. With the design of this building and having so many tenancies, I imagine finding a common area with easy access back to each tenancy would be a NIGHTMARE!

There may be a loom of cables in the ceiling running back to a comms closet already, or some similar arrangement.

Time to find a new industry!
