Hiya Guys

I am not the most techincally minded person in the world but I thought I could set up my new slingshot broadband connection, apparently not.

I think i have everything pluged in correctly

BUT   the DSL and PPP lights on my modem turn off about 30 secs after turning on the modem.  The LAN connection says that is is connected, but when I go to any website i get the page cant not be displayed message.

Can anyone offer any advice..... would love to get my connection up and running.

Also I set up all my line filters etc but when i am on the cordless at the computer i can hear myself clicking away on the mouse through the phone,...... i think i have the line filters set up wrong possibily.

Thanks to anyone in advance who offers some hints/tips

Have a good weekend

Megan

Hi Megan

Welcome to Geekzone.  No doubt the avalanche of advise will be forth coming, but without seeing the setup first hand it sounds like the setup of the filters is stopping the DSL in its tracks.  You definitely shouldn't be able to hear mouse clicks on your phone! The DSL and PPP lights on your router turning off after 30 seconds is the router attempting to sync and authenticate with the exchange - and failing (so it gives up).  The fact that your router DSL ligh is not showing indicates pretty clearly that you have no DSL connection (and correspondingly - no PPP light means it hasn't authenticated and established a PPP session).

looks like those filters!

Hi

Have you set up your Router with your Username and password that slingshot gave you ?
Try just plugging the router into the phone jack by itself.
Does the DSL light stay on or flash before going off.
Have all other phones including sky have filters?

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies

If i have an telephone extension cord from one phone jack to my computer room where do i have the line filter at the inital phone jack or at the end of my extension cord in my computer room????

Some correspondence I have say that there should be no line filters from where you plug the modem to the phone line while others say you need filters.

AGHHh all confusing

You should plug the Line filter directly into the jack first and then connect your phone using a phone line into the phone jack of the line filter and then assuming you are using a extension cord plug that in in the adsl jack and then just connect the phone line at the end of the extension cord to your modem.

I have a 10m telephone cord that goes around the back of my room to my adsl modem

NO. The filters are for filtering phones. Some filters have two inputs, one (unfiltered) for an ADSL modem and the other (filtered) for a phone.

If you plug an extension cable into the (filtered) phone socket of a filter, then this extension cable is only of use to connect a phone. If you connect an ADSL modem its signal will be blocked by the filter.

Try REMOVING any filter and connecting the ADSL modem.
