Hi all,

(Sorry for the multiple posting, ISP too slow, hands and keyboard too fast)

Hopefully this is the right place for my question.

Can anyone recommend a good web hosting company? I am playing with the idea to make my own webpage, but Telecom doesn't seem to have a web hosting option?
(I'm on the 3GB GO Broadband plan)

Thanks

What do you need?

PHP? ASP.NET? SQL?

How much disk space/bandwidth do you need?

How much are you wanting to spend?

www.hostmonster.com

if you dont want a .co.nz domain then this is the best option...by far cheaper than any NZ company with loads and loads of features...i am currently hosting my site through them (under construction) and so many features....including SSH access

Do whatever you want to do man.

No webhost is going to specifically like the fact that you get massive surges at specific times.  They cant suddenly give you all the recources.  However depending how often it happens most wont say anything about it unless it is constantly affecting multiple other shared hosting clients.

YOu could get a VPS (virtual private server) they give you specific recources but it is a lot more expensive than 15 dollars a month!  To be honest 1000 customers isnt really that bad depending on what your site needs to load, and obviously
what period of time the 1000 vistors are viewing your site.  If its all in 5 minutes this will be a massive spike, if its throughout the day it wont be so bad!

Just go and have a look at www.hostinghub.co.nz

It lists and reviews NZ hosting providers.

Remeber you get what you pay for, pay peanuts, get no service.

Yes, Telecom does have a web hosting option (If you really want to have a look there web hosting see here) (But I wont trust Telecom with hosting your site Wink I would tend to go with a proper web host then with an ISP web host.)

Have a look at these hosts:

http://www.webdrive.co.nz/

http://www.iserve.co.nz/

and have a look at http://www.hostinghub.co.nz

also if you want a .nz domain name have a look at http://www.simplydomains.co.nz/

Hope this helps Smile

why dont you just use something like http://members.freewebs.com/ and not pay a cent

personally I dont think many NZ hosts are really cost effective. I use webfarms freeparking but I would move more business there going forward.

compared to what I paid for dreamhost in the US when the $us was about 70c. they are a steal for $100 bucks a year

my one NZ site costs more than the 5 hosted in the states
