Hey guys. I'm currently living in the Ardmore area of Auckland and my family has been using Telecom/Xtra's Go-Large plan for as long as it's been around. However I'm moving out of home (to Pt Chevalier - Auckland) in the next week or so into a flat that does not currently have an internet connection. I went to look at the Telecom website and found out that Xtra no longer offers the Go-Large plan to new customers. This means I now have to research other options. I'm not *too* fussed about speed although I'd rather not be on a connection/plan that is slower than go-large. What I do need though is unlimited data if at all possible. This is my monthly usage at the moment (I'm the primary user). What sort of ISP+plan do you feel would suit? Cost can be shared with flatmates. As already stated speed isn't as much a priority as data is...

I heard that orcon has a plan similar to Go-Large? What is this like? I don't do much downloading (the odd mp3 every now and then) but do lots of surfing

Have you rung up Xtra to see if you can move your connection over to the new line?

It's not my connection to move unfortunately. It's on my mum's account and is her connection which I'm sure she'd like to keep

Orcon have a plan called "Zero Shock" as you can see here:

It's not *really* unlimited in that it has a 20GB "Soft Cap". Looking at your Usage Chart above, you would have squeaked in under the limit on all but 4 occasions, and given Orcon's warning policy, you might have got away with it.

This Orcon plan is probably the closest you will find in the current market to an "Unlimited" plan as most of the others have been withdrawn from the market. However, Orcon has not been getting good press lately as you can see from this thread:

If it were my money, I would sign up with Xnet and go for the RIVER plan at $33.95 per month:

You can set your own Data Cap or leave it unlimited and pay $1 per GB. If you use 20GB per month, it will only cost $4 per month more than you were paying for Go Large and there is no doubt that the speed will be far superior

By setting the Data Cap you can ensure that there are no nasty surprises when the bill arrives

Just a red flag. There are parts of Pt Chev that can't get Broadband. Would pay to do a line check on the Pt Chev number.
