Hey,
does anyone know if chorus are able to connect a house to a different, closer cabinet?
in the image shown it appears we were excluded from a new cabinet for no apparent reason and since fibre is roughly 3 years away for my area I want to know if there is any chance at being connected to that closer cabinet area.

cheers

Nope think of the cost of pulling up the copper that runs from your house to the cabinet it's connected to now and moving it to another?

The cost would be insane with digging up the streets and running it another route

You could move your connection to 2 Vardon Cres and get friendly with the neighbors with a Wifi link.

That is what I did.

a cabinet can only serve x number of customers with a % for infill housing. they have to draw a line somewhere and unfortunately the line excluded your house. it is what it is and there is not much you can do about it sadly.

you would have to look into other options

I would suggest it is more a point of how the original RLG was laid before the cabinets were upgraded. Most of the time it is just a straight swap (cross connect to a Whisper). Very seldom do they change the RLG.
There are many may cases where there may be a cabinet right next door but your copper comes from somewhere else down the road. It's unfortunate but can't be helped.

I am 900m to the exchange, there is a cabinet closer, but I am connected to the exchange. In my case, I can be connected to both but as the exchange connection is suitable, they can avoid infill on the cabinet by excluding me. Sounds fair enough.

That only means the copper pair is running thru the cabinet from the exchange, Do you have issues with midpoint injection?

No. Was just passing on why some may connect to one or the other and why it may be the case.

Thanks for the replys guys.
I would like to point out that the area I live in is all overhead wiring so there wouldn't be exorbitant costs due to digging up a street
Heres my thought train, please correct me if im wrong as I want to understand the processes.

The current cabinet area has wiring going from a pole right over the road connected to the new cabinet. In my mind all that is required is a simple wiring connecting my house to the pre-existing pole and into the cabinet area - I have attached an image to help visualise what im trying to get across

Here is the pole across the road

clearly some cost will be involved but i cant imagine it would be anything more than the cost of the copper + labour (correct me if im wrong)

Another annoying thing is the cable network for christchurch comes down Joy St - and stops at 98 joy st for some reason

im assuming the thick black cable on the right is the cable network which turns into a nice thin ADSL network cable on the left

To top it all off my area is last on Enable's list even though they put fibre down golf links road (which turns into Joy st further up) Pretty frustrating.

Cheers guys

No, they won't move you to another cabinet - overheard or underground cabling, it doesn't make a difference. Bear in mind the cable may not take the most direct path to your house.

Overhead cable still comes in from underground somewhere. So still a major job.

It's simply not going to happen, no matter how simple you think the job may be.

That thick Black cable is actualy part of the Vodafone cable network and nothing to do with Chorus at all.

The chorus network on that side of the street is in those little grey pillars (and is buried down the street) - that white pipe up the pole is for the service lead going up the pole and then via an aerial cable to the house.

If your connected to the area around the pole in your first pic then you will be connected via the SR/AQ cabinet at the Lake Tce end of Joy

my house is connected via an aerial cable, it comes underground from the cabinet to the pole where it splits, a few go to the pole the rest keep going up the street for everyone else. It goes up the pole then splits 5 ways, our house and 4 neighbors.

sucks but nothing you can do about it.
