Kiwilink don't have a voice offering , it's just a DSL service I believe

We've added a naked dsl comparsion table comparing the offerings from WorldxChange, Slingshot, and Kiwilink.

Its worth noting that all of ther other options, except for Xnet have some form of minimum contract....

One more big point of difference and this is a big one....your voice traffic does not come off your data cap, the Slingshot offering does I believe

One query I have myself, is VoIP traffic bound for VFX subject to the 64kbps throttle on cap when on the managed data option?

Yes it will be, but with some QOS / Policy that we run and if the Call runs on the standard codecs, then call quality may not be effected

With your new "smart network toys", is it possible once data cap has been reached, to allow any VFX traffic to remain unthrottled? This would be very useful for where G711U is used or two VFX lines in use at once.

I take it the standard 64K throttle is applied at the Telecom level, so this would mean applying the throttle on WxC network instead. Possible, or would this affect the Telecom pricing for the data component?

One additional question I would raise as to what coffeebaron asked is what happens to throttling back if someone is paying for the 90 kbps enhanced service or would that be separate from the 64 kbps throttled back service

That is not available yet and when it is profiles will be built around this to take that into account, so yes the Voice will be seperated out completley, the product hasn't been speced for implentation yet, just the actual service delievery spec.

A few Questions to Maverick re: Naked ADSL

My Dad's being waiting for about 6 years for prices to get reasonable for Broadband and phone (They're still a little on the high side, but not too bad).

He's currently spending about $60 for phone and Dialup.

1. Is naked ADSL available in Nelson, particularly in Stoke?
2. Can he keep his existing Phone Number?
3. What equipment Does he need for VFX and how much does it cost? (any recommendation?)
4. Is it worth putting the phone equiment on a UPS? (His current wireless handset isn't on backup power so they'd lose the phone with a power cut anyway)
5. I see VFX is currently waived for XNet broadband customers, how long will this last (approx)?

Many thanks Woolly

PS I'm with Xnet for broadband great service, It was a pleasant surprise after Xtra.

1. Yes Naked DSL will be available in Nelson as soon as thye product is avialble, see our availabilty thread here, freshly updated

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=65&TopicId=10392

2. Yes he can via number porting, a $17.50 charge for this (this is what Telecom Charges us ...no mark ups from us)
3. If he has a a good router already with switch ports dosn't want to use fax then the PAP2T is fine around $100 I think, other wise the 2102 is also fine this is a better device for faxing going forward.
4. Exactly right, lose power and your cordless stop working anyway Laughing, the service has an automatic inbound failover if the device goes offline you can setup a number for it failover to, ie your Mobile and it when it comes back online it will automatically switch off.
5. We don't see any change coming for this at this time, under Naked DSL it is a combined price.

Thanks for the quick reply a few more questions

1. I notice on the Linksys SPA2102 it says Two standard telephone ports for analog phones or use one of the ports for a fax machine, each with an independent phone number. So do you get 2 Numbers with the VFX service or is there additional fee for the second line?
2. Will he still need to buy ADSL filters as the Router would be the only device on the line?
3. Is VFX ok for Health Monitoring devices? Eg Granddad has a bracelet he wears if he falls down and can't get up.
4. Ok,
So for about $155 for equipment
    $28 a month after that
    Dad would get a
    - Broadband connection
    - Local Free Calling
    - 5c / min National Calling
    - 30c / min Mobiles
    - Cheap international calls

    - XNet Stream Broadband 256K Down / 128K Up + 1Gb Traffic = $27.97 GST inclusive
    - XNet VFX free to XNet Broadband Customers for the foreseeable future
    - LINKSYS SPA2102 2 PORT FXS ANALOGUE VoIP PHONE ADAPTOR with ROUTER connect to the WorldxChange XNET VFX servic
       $129 + GST = 145.13
    - TP-LINK ADSL POTS Distributed Filter RoHS compliant. Telepermitted (Telecom approved).
       $9 + GST = 10.13

Wow I'm stunned that would halve his Telecom bill.

Many Thanks Woolly

Thats for a connection with an existing pots line. For 'naked' DSL - you'd be paying $69.95. Which might not work out to be as cheap as previously indicated (ie. not 1/2)
