Hi folks,

I have a annoying problem, hope you will help me out.
My ADSL modem connect to the socket in the lounge, I used a splitter so that I can connect the phone to the same socket, which works fine. I can make phone call with no interference to the broadband.
We have another socket in the bedroom(same line), we I plug a phone into this socket, I can make phone calls, but my ADSL modem can't dial up any more. Even if I don't make any phone call, as long as the phone is connected, the ADSL modem is not working.

Any ideas? TIA.

Is the "splitter" you mention in the lounge just a standard phone splitter or is it an ADSL line filter? (You can tell by looking on it, by the sockets one will be labelled ADSL and one Phone if it is an ADSL filter)

Put an ADSL line filter on the phone in the bedroom (phone plugged into the phone socket) and see if that helps.

You MUST have a filter on EVERY phone (or Fax Machine or Sky Decoder) that is used in your house. Either that, or have a central splitter installed by Telecom at a cost of $150.

Echoing what has already been said, everything that connects to the POTS line must be filtered unless its the DSL modem. This includes sky boxes.

If you have an alarm or more than 3 jackpoints - consider getting a splitter installed.

We've got a reasonably simple check list on New Zealand connections for DSL steps as well :)
