hello people ive just arrived in your fair country and just moved into a flat, i really need your help from the begining as there seems to be terms and phrasers used here that i dont recognise plus ive always lived with people who know more about this stuff than me so am a little clueless.

what i want to know is whats the cheapest price i can pay for my broadband in total including line tolls basically whats the cheapest total price

my info:

i live in north shore auckland just over the bridge there are phone sockets
i dont need a phoneline (i have skype)
i want 2mb+ connection
i want to a download limit of min 10gb preferably 20gb but money is an issue (i.e if theres 10gb plans that are loads cheaper)

ive checked different providers sites and i cant find a clear example of total costs.
also i need a new modem so an isp with free modem and connection would be good

thanks in advance

can i suggest you look into telecoms phone plans for the phone line side of things, my girlfriend had a plan where she paid for the line rental and then paid 20c for every phone call she made, the most we spend was around $35 on it, unforntuntly the line rental is a must if you have no need for full upload speed because at the moment the naked dsl is only offered in the full up and full down speed limits and works out to around $70 + your data (about $1 per gig) thats what im on with xnet now

your option could be get that line plan from telecom then go to xnet for the broad band and look at the river plan which is full download speed and 128k up.

if you want full up and full down just go with xnet's fusion :) hope that helps

any way you will be looking around $60 a month with the later suggestion maby a touch more

Hu? did i do that?
16Mb (EDO RAM), K6-II processor, 2Mb of onboard graphics. 32k dial up modem. 12 speed CD ROM. 5¼-inch floppy drive. 500Mb HDD.

You can get Naked DSL (broadband with no line rental)

Xnet, I remember, provide a data only NDSL plan at $59.95 (FS/FS) + 1.02/GB required (so that's around $70 for 10GB)

Also see the NZ Connections Internet plan comparison.

Check out http://www.nzconnection.net/ for a comprehensive listing of internet connection providers/pricing etc.

My 2 cents worth...

I've just recently switched to xNet Fusion.  The base price is $69.95/month for the connection then (what works out to be) just over a dollar per gig of data.  I've capped this at 10gb.  I liked that the size of the cap is user selectable and you only get charged for what you use, ie you don't get locked into paying for something whether you use it or not.  If I use the full 10gb/month I'll pay something like $80.12.  I've found the clarity of VOiP and the helpdesk service to be excellent.

Happy hunting!!

i think you will find the price is $69 to start with then you pay for you cap around $1/gb cheers, this is still more expensive than traditional broadband if you dont want the full up load speed

By going through other threads I found that Xnet do offer a data only NDSL package. (69.95 also includes VoIP service, which he says he doesn't need because he has Skype)

you carnt get ndsl with out voip as far as i know, if he is not worried about upload speed he would be still cheaper just to go for regular dsl with somthing like the stream or river plan from xnet. along with the pay per call line rental from telecom

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Can't believe that you can't get NDSL without VoIP? See the NDSL table on NZ Connections...

www.ascent.co.nz have the full range of VFX-compatible hardware and their prices/service are good too according to others here who have ordered from them.

Once you've decided what modem/router set up you want to proceed with, you can always check out PriceSpy on the web to find a product retailer.  I brought a LinkSys WAG54GP2 so I could use my existing analog phone without needing to purchase any extra hardware.

Usually I spend a long time shopping around for product but didn't in this particular case and spent about $250.  Later when I looked in PriceSpy I found I could have saved myself nearly $70!
