We have had fibre for a month now & have had this problem since day one. It was installed by Chorus with Slingshot as our isp. After many calls to SS they gave us a new modem but the problem has continued. It affects the desktop which is connected via an ethernet cable and our wireless devices simultaneously.
Oct 16 21:02:23 daemon, crit, kernel: eth0 (switch port: 4) Link DOWN.
Oct 16 21:02:27 daemon, crit, kernel: eth0 (switch port: 4) Link UP 1000 mbps full duplex.
I don't understand what the above means but when we have this problem this is what the system log says. Obviously this was only for 4 seconds but sometimes it'll run to minutes and can happen several times a day. I'm not sure SS understand what is happening as the advice I get from them is on how to change the wireless channel to see if speeds improve which isn't a problem as the speed is fine. Please is there anybody here who can enlighten me on what is happening so I can arm myself with more knowledge next time I talk to SS. TIA
