Recently, Chorus has increased the size of the cabinet at the Ngutunui school.  Does anyone know what they did?  Does this mean VDSL is now available?  Previously ADSL was available but it was heavily over subscribed.  Maybe they put in new line cards or something.  Or Fibre?

The cabinet is located at: 38 04 33.77S 175 06 57.08E.

Have you looked on the ChorusNZ site? They quite often post updates on upgraded / new cabinets

FYI Chorus is not Spark so not the best location for this thread

You could always take a photo of the cabinet

I didn't see a category for Chorus so thought this might be the best one to use.

Great to see VDSL2 is coming to this area.  Unfortunately I am just outside the area shown on the map, but maybe the ADSL service will be improved.  Worth giving it a try again.

Your ADSL will dramatically improve in terms of the network congestion. You will be changed to ADSL2+ from ADSL1. If your line is capable of more than 7Mb/s you will see that increase depending on the line quality. VDSL may work. post your current modem stats or PM me your address and i can look further into it.

We had ADSL a year or so ago and had peak rates of 3.6mbps at 4am and 0.4mbps during early evening hours.  I don't think the copper was limiting the speed because we would get exactly the same peak rate at 4am.  This seemed like it was a limit due to the older cards.  We switched to Lightwire where we get 14mbps at 4am and 2.5mbps early evening.  Because we have a business (www.transoceana.com) and require 24/7 internet we are looking for a second path.  We tried satellite and that was really bad and expensive.  We have a landline and cellphone with Spark so we thought given the cabinet upgrade that it would be worth trying the copper route again.  We would sign up for the VDSL plan and see if we can get over 10mbps.  If not I believe the plan with Spark would bring it back to ADSL .. same cost for either plan.

3.6/0.4 sounds like a pretty poor preforming adsl connection there.

Given that you say your just outside of the shapemap, i would recommend once the cabinet is live going no contract for dsl and just trialing things. Likely a master filter installation would help too, VDSL is likely not to happen but adsl sure and given just outside of the VDSL line, you should still be over 10mbit.. 12~16 most likely.

Very much support the idea of going multipath there for you! if only more business's did this.
