HELPPPPP!!!! Where can I go that has good customer service and NO MORONS WHO DON'T GIVE A RAT'S ASS.

Is it a NZ or international domain name?

They can be problematic, as they require a number of manual steps, and sometimes they can fail if something isn't one right. You will usually also have to renew for an additional year with the new provider when you transfer it, and make sure it is unlocked.

Why do you have a domain tied to your ISP?

1stdomains is a good NZ Host.

.com's are fraught with difficulty.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Tell me about it. The .NZ way of transferring is so much easier, and instant, and you don't have to renew the domain upon transfer.

I had to do 30 domains for 1 customer about 7 months ago. It was the worst weekend I can recall in 5 years including two I spent in hospital! Some of the .com registrants are just unbelievably backward. Suicide inducing.

Metaname is still the best IMHO.

Have started transferring a lot of my domains to porkbun.com. Based in Portland, US. Small outfit but great support and easy to use interface. Prices are pretty good as well. Recent .com took 5 days to transfer as the losing registar can hold up a .com transfer for up to 5 days (to help prevent 'fraud').

I've done many email migrations. Usually you just have to change the MX records to point to the new provider, then migrate the email to the new host. Moving domain registrars can be tricky - sometimes it takes an hour, sometimes it takes two weeks.

Suggest you move to one of the bigger players, Google Apps, Office 365, Zoho, Fastmail. Moving email to an ISP is an odd move.

I guess we still don't know why the OP wants to have their domain with their ISP though. It seems a strange thing to be wanting to tie the two together when there are absolutely no benefits.

FWIW I use iwantmyname for all my domains now. My last 3-4 .com domains that I transferred in December from a couple of different providers outside NZ all completed in under 30 mins.

This seems to be an ongoing saga. Part 1. Part 2.

.com's can take upto 7 days to transfer, and if a change is made to the registrant details, you can find the registrar locks the account for 60 days to prevent further changes. The lock is registrar dependant though, so do it, some dont.
