I'm trying to port foward port 80 on the modem dlink DSL-502t and have read this: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=49&TopicId=18297

but it does not explain what the custom rule would be, and as i am completely new to port fowarding i have no idea what to do, a hand please!

(i also had the problem the i couldnt get "webserver" or any rule to stick.

Sorry funkilicious I ended up giving up with this modem as like you, I had problems getting any of the settings to save.  The modem would randomly forget the port forwards, and I'd end up re-adding them over and over again.

Swapped it out for a better router - best move I ever made.

To open a port (go to advanced/virtual server) you can use the predefined server option, but I would avoid this and go to user defind path for port 80 only.

Therefore, Connection=PVC0(there is only one you can use),  LANIP=IP of PC you want to point at, Category=User, RuleName=Anything youlike, Protocol=TCP, Start Port=80, End Port=80, Port Map=80, then hit apply.

You then need to got to Tools, System, Save and Reboot, to get the new Virtual Server to stick, as Nate says these routers are not the most bug free, although I have never had issues with port forwarding getting lost, YMMV.

I never had a problem with mine either, but I seem to recall reading somewhere that the UI has issues with some browsers.  What browser are you using?

Really interesting to hear - after the four or five times of having to re-enter the rule I gave up.  Out of curiousity, what firmware version are you running?

Cannot tell you which version as they are all related to clients setups, so no 502s here to look, I just have the pdf of the manual to support them. I have had issues with D-Link modems in general not storing details after going to Save-Reboot, but once finally saved they seemed to keep the updates.

You can be sure for a whole raft of reasons there are better modems about and I personally would avoid one, but from experience they seem to plod along most of the time with few issues.

Ok, basically, i got the rules to stick with all the thins you said.. But now when i go into my ip, it still comes up with my dsl router..

You should change the port of the router's configuration port to something else - as it uses port 80.

Then if you need to configure, use: http://[address of router]:[port]

Thanks, ive just changed the port of it, but now port 80 isnt displaying my server hahaha, ill try debug, Thanks though!!
