I'm getting sick of trying to deal with Ihug /vodafone to get a reliable news service.
The current state is that no news has flowed into ihugs nntp server since the 26th June.

surely theres an ISP out there that still cares about usenet?

http://groups.google.com/ maybe they are cutting them as the bins are becoming more popular than torrents.

On that note, are there any ISP's in new zealand that provide a FULL alt.binaries feed? Even if you have to pay for it.

Would doubt it... pulling down TB's of international data for a small subset of customers and then managing the support hassles (i.e. "what you only have 60 mins retention") just isn't worth it.

Do what most peeps do, sign up for a newsgroup account with one of the big providers.

Yes but then we have to pay for the traffic. Generally traffic with an ISP's network doesn't incur data usage. Your right thou its probably a pipe dream.. Someone needs to open a new ISP just for us leechers..

We (Xnet / WorldxChange) maintain a full news feed.

and it's local traffic (free) :)

Yes xnet may have a "full" newsfeed, but it's message retention for the binaries groups looks to only be a few days. Tell your bosses to throw a few hundred more terrabytes in the nntp server, and crank that up to a few months.. pretty please.

I'm actually in the process of building a new news server, however, binaries retention is not a big priority - but - the new server does have a *lot* of disk space :)

You are already on a short leash around here since you started a thread on illegaly downloading copyrighted material.

Invoking Godwin's Law is no-no here - read our Forum Usage Guidelines. I will give the benefit of doubt but you should know better. Another strike and you are banned.
