I just moved into a new(old) house.

I have connected a single jack point from my Demarc and that is the only jackpoint I have in my house now.

I am not going to use a Phone in my house.

I bought an XDSL Master Wired in filter but im not entirely sure on how to wire it up.

It says Orange/White to LINE

Green/White to MODEM

Blue/White to PHONE

I have two connections going to my phone jack, yellow and black. I am assuming they are connected to orange and white (LINE) on my filter.

How to I wire up Green/white (MODEM) so that it goes to a jack? Do I wire this up to an RJ45 Keystone? If I wire it to an RJ45 Keystone which colors go on what?

So why the filter? Adds zero value on a naked broadband connection

I have the receipt and it's still in the box :)

All of this aside, is there anything else I can do to get a faster speed? Like wiring up the connection from my Demarc straight into an RJ45 Keystone faceplate?

Buying a house next to a cabinet / exchange

What speed are you getting now and how does it compare to the Chorus address checker?

If your modem is wired directly to the demark there is nothing that will make your connection faster. A master filter is unnecessary and it won't make any difference what type of connector you use.

The way i understand this works...

The telephone companies phone wire (pair) enters your home at the 'demarcation' point.... The homes internal phone wiring then routes to every  jackpoint in the house.

The problem with this, is that the internet data signal degrades as it traverses the homes internal phone wiring.. each jackpoint introduces noise and signal reflections which cause a drop in the attainable data speed.

The solution is to install a 'master' filter (or splitter), at the demarcation point.   The master splitter splits the wire coming in from the street into 2 wires, one for 'phone' and one for 'internet'.

The phone wire is connected to the existing home phone wiring, and the internet wire is connected directly to a dedicated modem jackpoint.

The homes phone wiring can cause as much noise as it likes, because the  master splitter  stops the phone signal from degrading the internet signal wire.

So , if you only have one jackpoint in your house, connected directly to the demarcation point  (and absolutely no other jackpoints somehow connected anywhere else)... you don't actually need a master splitter to isolate the phone wires from the internet wires.... because you don't have any phone wires.

Only have 1 cable from the demark to your modem. Any branch cables will make things slower, even if there is nothing on the other end of the cable. And try to keep that 1 cable short.

Check that your modem supports vectoring.

Avoid unnecessary modem restarts. As the exchange might misinterpret the line drops from the restarts as a line fault. And it might slow you down in an attempt to make the line more stable. Try a PPP drop and renew first if the Internet stops working, before trying a modem restart.

If your modem is on a UPS, restart it during any power cuts in your area. It will sync with higher speeds due to less interference. Due to everyone else not having any power.
