I have my Fibre scoping appointment tomorrow with Chorus. Would appreciate any advise on what I am entitled to so I get a decent install that works for me and rather than the easiest for Chorus.

All the living areas are located on the first floor fo the house. I currently have VDSL that terminated in the living room on the first floor next to the TV/ Media players etc so I can run these off ethernet rather than wifi. I want the ONT located here as well. I assume they can follow the same path as the VDSL connection and replace the white VDSL box with an ONT?

The cabling in my walls and roof isn't in any sort of ducting.

Make sure you ask them how they will bring it from the street to your house, you don't want something that is the quickest way because most of the time it won't turn out very good.

Also, I'm not sure if they will remove the vdsl connection in the house because on our install they just left it and mounted the ONT above it which I was kinda unhappy about but oh well.

Biggest question is... Can you do it now?

Make sure they don't run it along a fence! it looks hideous, and when the fence needs replacing you need to pay!

This... remember they are not permitted to run it along the fence unless you are stupid enough to agree

another favorite is to run it across your drive in an existing strip drain... "no, way no how, and never"

Mine runs along a fence, no issues at all - otherwise there was no other way to get fibre to my place.

Chorus came yesterday. I have an existing duct running to my house so they managed to use that to run fibre to the outside of the house.

The location of the VDSL box next to the TV etc wasbnt accessible without running conduit around the front of the house which was a no go. They ended up runing the black cable around the house on the underside of the first floor where i have dark weatherboards round to the side of the house where I have a door to access the underfloor space. Cant see the cable from the outside which is good.

They are coming back to run the remainder under the house and pop up in the living room next to a power outlet on the same wall as the tv etc but on the other side fo the TV. Just need to run a cable to a switch under the TV to run all the TV, HTR Apple TV etc.  ( Half the room sits over the lined garage and the other half is accessible under the floor.)Not quite the result i was after but its probably better not to have all my power connections and data all congregated in the corner of the house). The new nokia ONT is a bit bigger than i was expecting so it will stick out a bit but other than that happyso far.

Installer was doing my neighbours house today. Aerial connection using the existing telephone line. Hopefully i get connected this week to put an end to buffering when watching BBC.

Don't get your hopes up, depending on what VPN you use you may still have issues as a lot of them don't have a lot of bandwidth!

They tried to put it through the copper pipe, wanted to give up and do a fence job, I said no disconnected the copper and used it as a draw cable for the fibre, those contractors are lazy! want the quickest in and out on each job my neighbours is a fence job, I told her that when the fence needs replacing (which it will in the next 5 years), I am not paying for your fibre to be relocated
