Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with either trustpower or nova for fibre. I'm asking as they're both offering 'free' TVs if I bundle everything up. I checked on powerswitch and surprisingly trustpower is #3, nova #2 and electric kiwi +nova is #1 for us so I'd actually save money switching power etc anyway. The only increase would be fibre prices (currently with myrepublic), but I don't really want to switch if I'm going to get meh internet out of them so would love any opinions towards them. Mostly use it for streaming and console gaming if that helps. Thanks!

Been with Trustpower now for a few years with no issues at all.

A speed test says higher ping than Spark was, but get the same ping to Aust gaming servers on Trustpower as I got with Spark.

Horrible router they supplied for free. Back to using the Spark HG630b with Unifi AC Lite Access Point for the Wifi

Got the half price for first year deal and have a phone as well that ports via the ONT same as Spark did.

No, I wouldn't go with any of them (same comment applies to Contact), and I think you'll find most people here would advise you you'd be far better off spending a few dollars more to get better service (especially customer service) - never select a provider purely based on price or "a free TV" (it's not really free). Your mileage may vary however.

My niece didn't have a good experience with Nova. She switched electricity plans and even though she didn't want to switch internet providers she got talked into switching her internet fibre away from 2degrees.

After the switch she said her internet was very flakey and was highly unreliable. Prior to lockdown she'd occasionally work from home and she said it was unusable at times, so had to hotspot and use mobile data for meetings or crucial work.

She managed to break the contract without any ETF and switched back to 2degrees. No problems since the switchback.

If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.

Just letting you know, nothing in this world is "free" the cost is factored into their price - you will also notice the termination fee varies depending on what "free" item you choose

Thanks for the replies! Good info to know. And yeah I've calculated the price differences between what I pay now and if I switched and it's still significantly cheaper than buying the TV outright. But I'm leaning towards the quality of the service overall not being worth it

Are you sure? I pay 27c oer KWH and 33c per day with Genesis, Trustpower at my address is 22c per KWH but 2.07 per day based on my last bill of 569 KWH used thats an increase of $29 per month

over 24 months thats $696 more, then broadband is $99 per month for 100/20 thats $10 more than I am paying now with bigpipe for 100/100 - so add $240 24 months that is $936 over the course of 24 months

A Sony 43" TV is $799 for Noel Leeming

Edit: Trustpower 100/20 unlimited is $109 so its $480 more for broadband

I will have a better look into the actual figures tonight though. Trustpower low user for example has very similar figures to your genesis pricing

Also I have clients who at home use trust power and no complaints about their service, only issue I have had is setting up VPN clients due to CG-NAT - However Trustpower offer a "Public Dynamic" IP address for free and a Static for $4.95 per month

I can't make any comment without being biased but will add that Trustpower officially launched their Mobile Offering as of last month if that interests you 🙂https://www.trustpower.co.nz/mobile - note that you will need to add the Power or Broadband using our Plan Builder to show the bundled mobile pricing.

One more thing. If you leave TrustPower before the agreed minimum period you have to refund part of the price of the "free" TV etc, but the prices are still very keen because they buy them wholesale....

Looks like you are comparing a low user plan with a standard plan. What is the Kwh cost on trustpowers low usage plan (that will have a day charge of 33c day also).
