Hi Guys

 

I'm interested to find out which ISP you use to broadcast to Twitch.tv and how have you found the quality of the upload to the platform?

Twitch have a Sydney ingestion server, so any provider should be good long as you have a stable upstream.

 

 

 

Twitch by their spec limit to 6mbit but if you bypass that anything more than about 20mbit and they will start dropping your session forcefully.

 

on a spark line, it happily sits at a rock solid 19.5mbit 1080P60 with no dropped frames. I suspect if you actually did that in streaming though they would come telling you off pretty quick.

Thanks for the reply hio77.

 

I have been broadcasting to Twitch for some time now and my channel has had some decent growth over the last few months.

 

However my ISP started off with 1080p 60 FPS with no dropped frames for about the first month and has not been stable since. Sometimes dropping to 0 bitrate.

 

I don't want to name and shame the ISP but I'm just looking to change to a ISP that can provide me a decent connection. I understand that there is times that there will be technical issues & I'm fine with that. But continuous issues is not great.

 

I will look at Spark as a potential option. What plan would you recommend for me?

I would highly recommend you double check you are streaming to the Sydney ingest server.

Yes I can confirm I have been. I have it manually set to the Sydney server. I even run a Twitch Inspector test 1 hour before my stream most days which tells me how the connection to the Sydney server is doing.

A big part of problems are related to internal network. Are you absolutely sure you have the best connection possible? Are you streaming over WiFi or ethernet? If using ethernet (always the best for reliability), have you switched cables since this started happening? Any new hardware involved? Have you swapped routers? Have you restarted your router lately?

Have you contacted your ISP to troubleshoot the issue? Switching ISP isn't always the best solution, especially if it is something internal causing your problem rather than your ISP - Most ISP's would have a direct route to Sydney I would assume, so shouldn't be any issues there.

Okay let me start off by mentioning what I do for my occupation so that we can avoid the "basic" questions. I'm an IT Engineer for a large firm in NZ. My role covers anything from Networking, Server Infrastructure through to applications support.

 

Yes I am absolutely sure that I have the best connection. I am currently on the MyRepublic Gamer Fibre Pro.

 

The fibre line was installed 5 months ago. The fibre line runs straight into the ONT in my study. From the ONT to my router is a 2M CAT6A cable. Then from my router which is the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 runs a 7M CAT6A cable to my streaming PC.

 

Yes all CAT6 cabling has been replaced since the issues started.

 

No new hardware. I get the same results if I stream from my gaming PC or my streaming PC.

 

Yes the router was switched to GT-AX1100 when the issues started. No difference.

 

Router gets restarted every 3rd day.

Yes I have. My Republic have a dedicated gamer support team which I often speak to.

 

A friend of mine uses Big Pipe and has advised that she has never had issues. We have both streamed on the same days. My bit rate would be under 2K or drop to 0. I would stop the stream, jump into her stream and she is still going without any issues.

Fancy gaming routers can often be worse not better...

 

As you work in IT and Networks, i'd recommend doing some packet traces and investigation into what's happening on the network when you experience these issues.

Have you contacted MyRepublic regarding the issue?

 

They have peering at Equinix and IX Australia in Sydney so I wouldn't expect there to be any issues with connectivity to Twitch's ingress server, but if you haven't already you could at least give them a chance to fix it before going through the hassle of switching providers.

 

If you have contacted them and they've been unable to resolve it, then really any of the major UFB providers in NZ should suit your needs.

Have worked through that. What MyRepublic can't tell me is why when I do a traceroute to the Sydney Ingest Server why I can't get past the 2nd hop. They have asked me to try multiple times after they have done a fix and still doesn't change anything.

 

But as I said I'm not here to bash them, I'm just looking too see what peoples experiences have been broadcasting to Twitch.

Yeah I have been chatting to them through Discord as their Gamer Support have a Discord server.

 

These issues have been going on prior for quite some time now.

 

Spark has definitely been a consideration for a while now.

My republic started out with a bang and bluster and then just kinda didn't do anything for a while, which damaged their reputation around here. They spent way too long using 1Gbit hangovers, iirc. Spark (BigPipe/Skinny), 2Degrees, and Voyager are easy sells. Vocus isn't bad either though I haven't dealt with them for a while, but all of them have good service and people from the company involved in social media (including participating here).
Take your pick, but I'd recommend getting away from My republic until they offer something no one else can.
