I'm confused.

Many people including Chorus tell me I can use the 2nd port on an ONT for a separate ISP account. However Spark tell me they do not activate.

So I'm picking technically one can activate it but commercially Spark dont want to. Anyone know why they want to duplicate fiber cable into an existing business premises?

From memory it's simply about their backend systems - they don't support this function

Whether or not you are able to get someone at spark to help with it manually I'm not sure

Secondary Offers are VERY RSP Specific, some will do it, some won't

Also chorus will only allow up to 200Mbit on port 2 from memory

I have activated a 100/100 on a Auckland Chorus ONT. It took Spark's social media team to get it done tho. BizHub guys said the same thing you heard

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

Second ports can be done but really need to be a special case.

Smaller non B2B providers will tend to support it fairly happily. It all comes down to cost do develop basically duplicated capability

Bigpipe/Skinny provisioning teams are normally happy to do it, with the caveat about only certain plans being available.

Vocus (who own orcon) do, but maybe only for business customers - but the sleep out tenants can choose any RSP they want which supports it

two different RSPs can be on each ONT port

You could also get a second ONT next to yours for very little hassle/money. A few hundred $. Your initial install would (should) have included two fibres, so they can just liven up the second one. That way the sleepout can use the primary port on the second ONT. Just make sure the serial of the ONT is provided when they place an order.

Spark made a business decision back in the day not to sell secondary service offers to their retail customers (except second ATA voice where available), and Chorus does not support multiple primary service offers on a single ONT - at least not yet. This is something we are currently investigating as a future service enhancement.

Even if Chorus do allow multiple primary connections in future, each RSP will still need to decide whether they wish to offer this to their customers - and they'll need to update their own CRM systems accordingly to allow for that.

Chorus has been doing multiple primaries on the same ONT since 2019.
The ISP needs to order a secondary service then upgrade it to a primary.

I wouldnt see any major ISP that mostly automates things as really wanting to get involved with it.

But most smaller ISPs wouldnt have a problem if they do manual provisioning.

To @madengineer:
Install some optic@t5e cable and a spare pull wire (such as a cat5 cable) between the ETP on the house and the sleepout within a green or white 20/25/32mm duct. Ensure the sum of all buried bends equals no more than 225 degrees and no bend is less than 30cm in radius. That allows for a vertical drop at each end, a 90 degree bend to horizontal and a 45 degree bend in the path. Leave at least 2 metres of opticat at each end for the tech to work with his splicer machine.
Call your ISP and ask for a secondary ONT installation. Its a service chorus offer.

The chorus tech can splice the second / spare fiber inside the ETP to the optic@t5e running to the new sleepout and install the second ONT at that location. This will only work if the sleepout does not have a separate street address.

You will then have the benefit of being able to offer your tennant the choice of any ISP including those that dont run on the spark network, and if there are ever any problems, the tennant doesnt need to get into your house to reboot the ONT while you are not home. Eg. In our case we wont provide support beyond the basic troubleshooting procedure which involves confirming the ONT has been rebooted in the chorus portal. Hard to do if you cant access the ONT.

Only issue is if they're away and a fault develops with the ONT - very difficult to get access to fix it.
