BigTime Plan faster than ADSL1?

I was wondering is the connection speed for Telecom Big Time during peak hours where they have traffic control on, still be faster than normal ADSL?
cus I hadnt realised that Xnet only provided ADSL2+ on the Fusion plan, so that means I'm currently on ADSL1 ?(i think) meaning my download speed from speedtest.net is only 2Mb/s and upload 0.8Mb/s which is quite slow....
so will I get faster speeds by changing to Big Time even during the traffic controlling hours? and will gaming lag on international servers? (USA, Japan) thx~
ps. i live close to an exchange so distance isnt a problem =)

Steer well clear of big time unless you want to be subjected to ultra crappy speeds. I live less than 200m from my exchange, have had my line checked out by telecom engineers and as a result it has confirmed my suspicions that the traffic management (more like disablement) is heinously bad and heavy handed. Gaming wont work very well, you will get massive pings, file downloads will be pretty slow (10-40 kbps) and dont even try to do p2p as that will get you about .5-10kbps max, all of this is occuring on a line that I know is capable of 1.2mbps download (Sync rate is 13000kbps). Your probably much better off just upgrading your Xnet plan.

I agree p2p on Big Time is utter crap 24 hours a day. File downloads 10-40?. I only wish I could get 40

oh wow its that bad? guess its out of consideration then~ patznz u said i should upgrade to Xnet Fusion but it seems people are complainin of speeds slowin down in that also =( any suggestions of a more reliable isp that provides more stable speeds?

Oh damn, I was thinking of big time ADSL2+ too.

Popularpp, does you new cut sometimes around 12 times an our at times on Xnet?

Also another reason to move away from Xnet is the fact that they have entirely blocked ip addresses if you download too much data from the until exactly mid night. Not only that, they have capped everyone "even on non capped" plans to 256kbit speeds!! For international data.. Hopeless company.

Gotta disagree with you on the "upgrade your Xnet plan" Xnet Fusion is just to slow for anything at all...it's even slower than big time.

Big time is fine for:
Webpages, Youtube, most gaming on PSN network or Xbox live or steam for the matter(as long as the servers are mostly NZ/AU), downloading local content(game demos, game updates, windows updates)

Not good for:
torrents, downloading software from overseas

But so far, has been much better than anything Xnet has had to offer, just look at the Xnet threads. So many international traffic complaints, it's been horrible and forced me to leave after 2.5 years as their customer.

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

I echo what has been said above, just gone onto Big Time and my download speed has suffered royally! streaming barely works, download speed around 10k/sec
